Montgomery Family Newsletter April-June 2006

Dearest brothers and sisters in Christ,

Hello from El Paso! It always amazes me how quickly summer flies by.  I hope that you’ve all had a wonderful time this summer and that the Lord has worked mightily in your life. The Lord has continued to be at work here, and it is exciting to be able to participate in what He’s doing!

One such blessing is that since the end of our English classes in May one of the students, Alfredo, has continued studying the Bible individually with me. It has been so exciting to watch him soak up God’s Word. He sees the foolishness of many of the false teachings that he grew up hearing, and he is just thrilled to be able to read and understand God’s Word for himself. It will be interesting to see just how God uses him in the future. Please continue to pray for Him. Along with Alfredo, I’ve got a number of other individual studies going on this summer. If you’ve ever done home Bible studies you know that these can be very rewarding yet also be frustrating at times due to scheduling problems. Summer time is particularly difficult with the children being out of school, vacations and other activities. Please ask the Father that these studies—and really Christ himself—will become a greater priority in the lives of those I’m studying with.

Another great blessing during the previous quarter was going to Pine Springs Christian Camp again. I taught a Bible class every day and helped with odds and ends when we weren’t teaching. Although it was busy and exhausting, it was a different busy and exhausting so we had a great time! I was so proud of the 6 girls that went with us. Of the 70 kids at camp, only 10 memorized all of the Bible verses during the week, and 4 of our kids were among those who memorized all the verses! We were also blessed by the presence of Romy, one of our team-mates here, at camp this year. She was involved in Bible classes, crafts and several other things (including watching Bethany regularly, which REALLY helped Alicia and me). I think everyone had a great time and came back spiritually refreshed.

Unfortunately the week leading up to camp was a very difficult one for everyone in the church here. Vero, one of our sisters, lost her physical sister Nora in a tragic homicide. I really don’t have words to explain the feelings we all went through that week.  If you have ever suffered the loss of a loved one in such a way, you understand. Most of my time was spent with the family and getting the funeral prepared. Being my first funeral I was nervous. Having to preach it in Spanish made me VERY nervous. I have to praise God for his wisdom in creating a body of believers that are called to work together. I could never have helped if I had not been helped. One of the sisters here corrected my sermon so that I could say just what I needed to. Others provided comfort and consolation to the family members throughout the week. Still others helped financially, provided food, or assisted in various other ways. It was GREAT to see Christ’s hands and feet at work in a real-life scenario. I believe God was greatly glorified, even during such a tragedy.

On the home front, we continue to covet your prayers for Alicia. For those who may not know, in May we sent Alicia to Fort Worth to see a specialist about her health. While there, they did extensive testing and therapy. We feel encouraged by the results as well as the direction the doctor is taking.  It will be a VERY slow process of recuperation, but Alicia IS getting better. We really want to thank the Lord for all that He has done. We would also like to thank you for your prayers in this regard. Please keep praying for strength and endurance for all.

Grace and Peace,

Kevin, Alicia and Bethany Montgomery
