Happy New Year from El Paso! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday
season. I was certainly blessed to have been able to visit with many of you
over the past month. It always warms my heart to see you face to face.
Unfortunately we did not get to see everyone. Lord willing, we will get the
chance to come your way sometime in the future. We’ve been blessed with many
wonderful opportunities to serve and teach over the last few months. Here is an
overview of the bigger activities:
• The fist weekend of October
we held a medical campaign in Juárez with groups from northern New Mexico and
Tulsa, Oklahoma. During the campaign we helped literally hundreds with basic
medical needs, medication, optical exams and glasses, clothing, toys for the
children, and other physical necessities. Everyone who visited the doctors
participated in a short Bible study. From these studies we had several
baptisms! In addition, we finished building a church building that was started
in June. My primary job was interpreting for the builders and optometrists (and
really anyone else I happened to notice flapping their arms and legs trying to
communicate). I believe the campaign was a success, and the Lord was certainly
glorified through the work of everyone involved.
• As many know, we’ve been
using English classes in conjunction with Bible classes here very effectively
for evangelism over the last year. During the final parts of 2004 some new
students began studying with us here in Montana Vista. These studies have been
doubly successful in my view. On one hand the students are getting to hear the
gospel for the first time. On the other hand, one of the new brothers here in
Montana Vista is participating in the class in order to learn how to teach
others the gospel. He and I meet together earlier in the week to go over the
study. Then, he comes to the English/Bible class to see how to present it to
non-Christians. So I see this as a very helpful method of both reaching the
lost and discipling younger Christians. PLEASE keep praying for everyone
involved.
• Around the Christmas season
we were blessed to receive wrapped presents from churches all over Texas to be
shared with children who’s Christmases may be less than bountiful this year. We
saw this as a wonderful opportunity to reach out to those in the community. We
encouraged all of our members to invite their neighbors, friends and
acquaintances to church. We had a houseful to say the least! I didn’t get an exact
number, but there were upwards of 60 + people there. While everyone was present
we had a special study on God’s great gift, Jesus Christ. Lord willing we’ll be
able to follow up in the future with more studies with individuals.
• Throughout the last few
months we’ve been continuing to study with different individuals both to
evangelize and establish the Christians here. Please keep these in your
prayers—some of those participating are Miguel, Oscar, Eddie, Carlos, Rosa,
& Eustacio.
2004 has been a wonderful year here in Montana Vista. We
have seen the Lord’s hand in many areas of our lives and in many areas of the
lives around us. Naturally we are excited about all the new possibilities and
directions that God has prepared for us in 2005. We are already planning a
number of activities for the months ahead. Please pray that God will establish
our plans as we commit them to him, and that he will give an abundant harvest
in 2005. Thank you for participating in God’s work here in Montana Vista. May
God richly bless you all in your service of the King.
Grace and peace,
Kevin, Alicia and Bethany
