Misión Montana Vista
Montgomery Family Newsletter, December 2003
Dear friends and Family,
I certainly hope each of you is doing well this time of year. As we come
to the holiday season, I want to first wish everyone a wonderful holiday.
We were blessed to spend Thanksgiving with Alicia’s family, who visited us here
in Montana Vista. Of course, while they were here I put them work.
I’m sure they came to work, and not just to come play with that silly grandbaby!
Virgil, Carrel (Alicia’s father and grandfather) and I built a sink for the
church house. Up to this point we’d been washing our hands in the
tub. With their help, now we’ll feel like we’re in the lap of luxury!
I do not know about how November was in your area, but here we had plenty of
sickness going around. I was told that one of the school districts here
reported 24% out due to illness! Our church attendance certainly reflected the
same. Our average was down by about 1/3 from the previous
months. Even our little family has caught two different bugs in the last
3 weeks! I suppose that being new around El Paso makes us particularly
susceptible to the viruses and things around this area. So far December
has been better for the church and it looks like we are getting back to normal,
thankfully.
On a brighter note, in our September newsletter we mentioned that we have been
participating in a benevolence day (“dispensa” as they say here), once a month
with the Montwood Church of Christ. Unfortunately, Montwood has no one to
follow up with all of the Spanish speakers. Between the both of us,
however, we make a great team! They help many physical needs of those here and
we get to help with the spiritual needs as well. Usually, 90-95% of those
coming for help are from our area. Thus, this is the perfect opportunity
to make contacts and get to know our neighbors. In fact, Sylvia, who was first
met through the dispensa, has been coming to services and the ladies Bible class for
the last couple of months. We’ve also had others contact us about the
ladies’ bible classes and English classes because of the work here as well.
God is certainly blessing this work and using it to reach many here in this
area.
Special prayer requests:
Beginning in January we’ll be offering English/Bible classes here in Montana
Vista. Please pray that God will bring many people so that they can hear the
gospel through this.
We’ve also begun filling next year’s calendar. Please ask God to give us
wisdom to do and plan the most helpful things. Also pray that He will open new
doors for evangelism and maturation of the saints here. In addition, please
remember some special brethren and visitors that are here: Mayela, José and Yurid,
Sylvia, and Ramiro.
As always, we are deeply grateful for your concern for the lost. May God bless
you.
