Misión Montana Vista
Montgomery family newsletter, September 2003.
Hello all! Things here in Montana Vista have certainly gotten kicked-off. Here is a summary of some of the activities that we were involved with in August:
- Outreach – Kevin helped with the benevolent work at the Montwood church of Christ in east El Paso. The reason for this is that about 95% of those getting help came from the Montana Vista area. So he and Paul Gonzales, another brother from Montana Vista, helped out there and will continue in the months to come. This only takes place one Thursday per month but gives us many good contacts for the gospel here in Montana Vista.
- Youth night – Lonnie Tapscott, another brother working here, was invited to teach a Bible class at another church here in El Paso for a youth "lock-in." I just went along to enjoy the fellowship and get to know more people from the area.
- Youth trip – Took a group of 8 to Carlsbad Caverns on Saturday August 30. While there we got to know some of the youth better, got to practice our Spanish ALL DAY LONG, and got to have a great time looking at God’s creation and learning more about Him.
- Woman’s Bible Study – Began a Women’s Bible study on Wednesdays here at the house. It consists of a Bible lesson, a craft and good old-fashion fun and fellowship! The first two weeks the ladies had 11, with half of those being visitors! Praise God. Please keep this and other studies in your prayers.
- Mid-week Bible Study – Began a mid-week Bible study on Thursday evenings. We are beginning a study of the book of Acts to help establish the young Christians here and to use it for reaching out to the lost as well. Our first study had a smaller turn out than expected (6), but several told us at church they simply forgot because it is new and haven’t gotten into the routine.
These are just a few of the activities that we’re getting involved with here. One of the highlights of the month was that we had our largest group for worship service on Sunday. On the 24th of August I was blessed with the opportunity to preach to 46 people about the great sacrifice that Christ made for our salvation! Since then we have had good numbers, although not record numbers!
Some Prayer Requests:
The young Christians here—Satan is certainly attacking their young faith.
God to keep tilling the ground here and preparing souls to be touched
Team development, Spanish acquisition, goal/direction setting for the congregation
We appreciate your interest in the work here more than you know and cannot tell you of our appreciation of your prayers and financial support. You are continually in our prayers.
May God bless richly you,
Kevin, Alicia and Bethany
