Misión Montana Vista
Montgomery Family Newsletter, April/May 2004
Dear Christian family,
April and May have flown by and things are heating up here in El Paso! We’ve
had a busy couple of months but have been very blessed through them as
well. Here is a brief run-down of some of the activities we have been
involved with in April & May:
- By the end of the English classes at Eastwood this semester (from
Jan to April) we had seen over 7 baptisms, and over 40 people heard the
good news. Since April one particular student of mine has been
visiting with us regularly in Montana Vista while a number of others are
continuing at Eastwood.
- English classes have finally begun here in Montana Vista! I
currently have 4 students (Carlos, Catalina, Concha and Manuel) meeting
once a week. Along with the basic English, we’re studying God’s plan of
redemption. Thankfully, we already see growth in some of those coming. May
God indeed give us an increase in number as well!
- Several new Bible studies have begun here in Montana Vista. We
began studying with Oscar, Eddie, Suzi, and we’ve been having several new
visitors at services.
- We were blessed with a brief but wonderful visit to Hobbs in May to
preach and catch up with the brothers there. Thank you all for all the
encouragement!
- We celebrated Bethany’s 2nd Birthday. Since she had already had a
small birthday party with both sets of grandparents, we decided to take
advantage of the culture here and throw a big birthday party, inviting
everyone and their mother. We had over 40 come and got the chance to
fellowship with several new folks and get better acquainted with
others. It was a great evening and God certainly CAN use anything to
reach new souls, even a birthday party!
- We took all three of the students in the oldest class (Briget,
Jenni and Fernanda) out for a pizza party to reward them for memorizing
ALL of the Beatitudes! Needless to say, we are VERY proud of our girls.
- Probably the most time-consuming but rewarding activity we were
involved with in May was going to Pine Springs Summer Camp. Through
scholarships from some dear members at Hobbs, 7 children from El Paso got
to spend a week in the mountains having fun, getting to know other
Christian kids, and learning about God through lessons and godly examples
of the staff. Once again, our kids did GREAT. Just to be able to go
they had to memorize the Greatest Commands (Mt. 22:37-40) and read the
Sermon on the Mount twice. I have to brag a bit more about them.
Eastwood Church of Christ lent us a van for the week, but unfortunately
the van didn’t have any air conditioning. We traveled across a
desert for almost 3 hours (both ways) in the middle of the day and had
only ONE complaint about it being hot! How many youth groups can say that?
Praise God for our kids and thanks again for those involved in helping
them go. May God bless you richly! Alicia and I were blessed to be able to
teach a class each day and helped with various things throughout the
week. Overall it was a very enriching week for all those involved.
We love and miss you all. We are certainly
blessed by your ongoing love and concern. Please, please continue to pray
for the work here.
In Christian Love, Kevin, Alicia and Bethany
