July 2004
Two souls. One choice. Two
souls – one looking to a future of challenges; one looking back on a past of
difficulties. In June we had two ladies give their lives to the Lord in
baptism! Jenny is twelve and decided after many months of soul-searching that
she wanted to dedicate the rest of her life to the Lord. Margarita (or “Mage” –
pronounced Mah-geh) is over 70 years old and realized that God has the power to
cover ALL of her sins and give her a new life through Christ! It has been so
exciting to see their growth over the past month. God can do such awesome
things through us if we let him!
Things have been hectic
during the summer. We’ve had all kinds of visitors, all kinds of folks going on
vacation (including us), and many different activities. The busiest time was
during VBS, which occurred July 21-23. According to reports, we had “lots” of
kids from the neighborhood come – exactly what we’ve been praying for! It was
held during the day, so I was unable to help except to draw a few measly
posters for the classes. But we had great participation from our members and
from a couple of other congregations here in town. Now comes the important work
of follow up.
Of course, follow-up has
been hampered by the fact that we’ve had guests in our house and we went out of
town this past weekend. But now we are ready to visit some folks and share the
wonderful joy of the gospel message with our neighbors. Please pray for these
efforts.
I was also excited to hear
Sonny’s voice on my answering machine when we got back. Apparently, he and
Jency will be coming down the 14th and 15th of August to
bring the clothes you have been collecting. We are looking forward to that
visit, and I would encourage any who would like to come down with them to join
their caravan! We would love to see some familiar faces here to brighten our
lives even more. Thank you for your continued concern and support of God’s work
here. It would not be what it is without your prayers.
More prayer concerns:
We are still trying to find
an affordable home to move into, and we would like it to be of greatest service
to the Lord. Please pray for these efforts.
We will begin a new series
of lessons on our purpose here on earth as Christians – please pray God will
speak through us.
As you know, we are in
search of godly men to be leaders in the place. You also know of the concerns
of some of our members and regular visitors – Mayela, Susy, Mario & Chayo,
Sylvia, and Amelia. So many souls! Keep them all in your prayers.
May God continually pour out
his riches spiritual blessings on you as you work for him in the Parkway
neighborhood. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces again.
In Christ,
Lonnie Tapscott and family
