From the desk of the advisor...
Back in June of '36, Hoagy Carmichael and Stanley Adams summed up the attitude of the members of the Longwood Swing Society in a song they composed named "Sing Me a Swing Song (And Let Me Dance)". Here is an excerpt:

"Oh, baby, I don't want you to croon soft and mellow,
"Let me warn you in advance.  Sing me a swing song and let me dance."

"Oh, baby, I don't want any moon bright and yellow,
"You can have your sweet romance.  Sing me a swing song and let me dance."

Swing is to dance what jazz is to music.  Just as in jazz, improvisation is also fundamental to swing.  After learning the basics, the dancer is pretty much free to experiment.  It's interesting, it's challenging, it's great exercise, and it's a lot of fun.  It's a terrific way to socialize.  You and your partner can sway to the rhythm of the music in each other's arms, forget about everything else, and simply enjoy yourselves and each other.

I'll see you on the dance floor.  Keep your laces tied.
