Longwave - Gig on the Green, Glasgow 2002
Longwave were playing the 2nd stage on a surprisingly warm Sunday morning in the heart of Glasgow in mid-August. After watching the fabulous Aereogramme fight a barrage of promotional frisbees on the main stage, we headed down to the Stage 2 tent in readiness. Already, at the front of the crowd were fans waiting to get prime positions for Feeders performance there at around 8pm that evening. The tent was slowly filling up, many fans having caught the band supporting the Strokes earlier this year. Unfortunatley, Longwave had tough competition, on the main stage at the same time were fellow New Yorkers and Strokes support, The Moldy Peaches.
Longwave managed a fantastic set, playing a lot of new material, but perhaps restricted by the short timeslot they had been given. The darkness of the tent helped a lot, meaning the lights and smoke machines created quite an atmosphere. The set ended with the usual anarchy on stage, Shannon deciding to take out a lot of frustration on his poor amp while the rest of the bandmates rediscovered their youth through the battery of effects pedals.
Though short, the Longwave sound was as perfectly formed as ever, earning them an even greater following!
