Longueville Lads Punish The Benders Again!

Longueville Lads 9 Botolph Benders 4

15th August 2000: Kick off 11:00am

The Longueville Lads went into their second match against the 'Botolph Benders' expecting major team changes to the opponents' team but they were unable to deliver.

It took the Longueville Lads just five minutes to open the scoring, when Phil latched onto a through ball by Jeps after Silve cleverly dummied it through his legs. Moments later, Silve supplied the perfect opportunity for Andy to slot home number two. His pass found Andy in space in a crowded penalty box, and the Bream Supreme cooly left-footed home passed the stranded Stuart Easton.

In the Longueville goal was the village clown Wrighty and 'as usual' he had a dependable flamboyant game between the sticks, conceding an early goal through his legs. Jez then increased the gap back to two goals, when his left foot shot sailed past the keeper. Jeps added a fourth moments later with a right foot shot which crept just inside the post.

With the last kick of the first half it had to be done. Wrighty, again at sixes and sevens, conceded his second of the match through his legs.

Straight after the break, Jeps’ left foot power bomb left sub keeper Sean Donnolan begging for mercy.

At 5-2 up, the Longueville Lads looked to be heading for an easy victory until Derby capitalised on Jez’s poor control: Derby then skipped past the unfit Silve and shot from all of twenty yards, which swerved past Wrighty, who was left stood bemused in the Longueville goal, and was subject to many unscenely comments from team mates who were not impressed with his stature. The lads were in further trouble when Derby embarrassed Wrighty for a second time with a low shot which crept under his body.

At 5-4, Wrighty produced many fine saves to keep the Longueville Lads in the game. With the added confidence in the team, the Longueville Lads decided to up the tempo. With ten minutes remaining, Silve opened his account with a driving volley which went in off the post. Seconds later he fired home for the second time to increase the gap once more. A minute on and the best goal of the match came when Jeps crossed from the left, Andy flicked the ball on and Silve headed home three yards out for a well-deserved hat-trick. Silve took a blow to the face from the fat, red-faced keeper for his troubles. Two minutes from time, Jeps completed his hat trick with shot completed after taking on three of the opposition team. In the dying seconds, Jacques made a crucial block on a goal bound shot from Paul Neale.
