I built a very inexpensive H.E.R.M.S. system (compared to $1000's of dollars). Hopefully this is helpful to anyone thinking about building their own, but worried about the cost.
Notice that I mounted the pump slightly lower than the HLT and Mash Tun. This helps to prime the pump. I just open the water valve and wait a few seconds before turning the pump on.
