| The Haunting of Redlands, Ca. | ||||||
| My parents were divorced when I was very young. I spent most of my childhood being bounced back and forth from my mom's house in Redondo, Ca. to my dad's house in Redlands, Ca. My dad's house was huge and was built in Redlands over 100 years ago. I never liked staying there. I always had an uneasy feeling when I was in the house and to make things worst my room was on the opposite side of the house than everyone else's. In that type of situation a young child's mind runs away with itself. I would hear knocks and tapping almost every night. Most of the time I just brushed it off as tricks of the mind. Then things started to become harder to brush off. One night at about 3AM I heard VERY CLEARLY a man's voice screaming "HEY!" My father had been asleep for hours and I was wide awake so it wasn't like a dream or anything. Plus he was the only man in the house at the time. Another time I saw a strange light pass in front of my room. At first I thought it was my imagination or maybe my dad or little brother was in the hall with a flashlight. When the light was about to pass the opposite door frame I ran to see it up close. There was nothing and no one in the hall. This was pretty nerve racking by itself but the worst was yet to come. One morning, when I was about 10, I woke up at around 9AM. After rubbing the sleep out of my eyes I looked forward and in the upper right corner of my room was the upper half of an Elderly Woman watching me sleep. I closed my eyes with fear hoping I just needed a moment to adjust to the sunlight and fully wake up. When I reopened my eyes she was still staring at me. All I could do for a minute or two was stare right back. It never went away. Like every little kid would do I threw the blanket over my head and hid under the covers for almost an hour. I finally built up the courage and peaked my head out into the room. She was gone. I didn't bother telling my father cause I knew he wouldn't believe me and most likely make fun. Anyway, whenever I insisted the house was haunted he'd get mad cause he paid a lot of money for it. About a year or so after I saw the woman in my room my dad and I were having lunch at a local Mexican Restaurant. I was telling him a story I saw on the show "Sightings" about a house in the Midwest haunted by a little girl. That's when my dad tells me that the house he is living in has a history around Redlands. The Legend says that the house is haunted by a Chamber Maid who used to live there along with a Man who killed himself in the basement. At home, after lunch, my father showed me old pictures of the house he had framed in his office. The house being over 100 years old he thought those pictures would be an interesting keepsake. One of the pictures showed a servant that used to work at the house. I remember when I saw the picture I broke into a cold sweat and the hair stood up on the back of my neck. The person in the picture was the same exact woman I saw in my room one year earlier. It turned out my father knew the history this entire time and just wouldn't admit to it. What he didn't know is that My room is right above the Old Woman's room which coincidently is right above the area in the basement where the man hung himself. My Dad sold the house soon after and is now living in a ghost free condo. -Ian L.I.P.S. Founder |
