| This mural was created by a dedicated group of young artists. The group chose to create a painting that reclaimed traditional, heterosexist fairy tales and cultural and mythological images for a lesbian and gay audience. Over six weeks, the group designed and painted the artwork. The project also involved remodeling this entire room so that the room could become a comfortable refuge for the young people who participate in Pride for Youth's Friday night Coffeehouse. The result of the project is the creation of a new space that celebrates the identities of the young people at Pride for Youth and lesbian and gay young people everywhere. |
| The Marsha Day Memorial Fund This project was made possible, in part, by a grant from the Astraea Lesbian Action Foundation/Marsha Day Memorial Fund. Marsha Day was an activist, an adventurer, a social innovator and champion of troubled teenagers who ran away from home or were homeless for other reasons. Following her death from brain cancer in January 2001, a grantmaking foundation was set up in her name. The Marsha Day Memorial Fund makes grants to organizations Marsha helped to create or worked with, and causes that she cared about, including runaway and homeless youth, HIV/AIDS, women, human rights, and the poor. |
