| So wat's yer name, kid? | ::A stout kid clenching a not-so-fresh pretzel in his hand grins dumbly at you.:: I'm Thad. Thad Crosby. ::Stuffs the pretzel in his mouth.:: Meaveoomeafoo. ::Chew, swallow, turn three shades of red.:: Err, ummm, pleased to meet you. |
| You got a nick-name or was 'dat it? | ::Licks salt from his lips and fingers and shakes his head:: I don't think I got none. ::Wrinkles his eyebrows in thought. Looks up and shrugs:: The nuns called me Thaddeus when they was real mad at me. ::Sees a pretzel crumb he's missed on the bed and swipes it up, grinning.:: But that's my Christian name, not my real name. |
| Where you from, anyways? | I always lived in a orphanage in Harlem. ::Thinks:: Don't remember anything before that. ::Sighs:: I wish we'd a never left. It was great there, we got three meals a day and the pantry was always left open. ::Salivates at the memory of all the food.:: |
| Whadd'a yah look like? | ::Is purposely ignoring the question. You shrug and simply take in his features yourself you're sitting right in front of him, after all. Thad is short and stocky, adorned with round features and plump, greyish eyes that mirror almost every human attribute except intelligence. A mess of light brown hair sticks out every which way from under a grey cap and the boy is clad in the usual newsie apparel. Thad grins up at you in hungry expectation.:: Got anything to eat? |
| Got any 'ahhh, distin'guishin charact'ahristics? | ::Frowns, definitely not the reply he'd been looking for. He shrugs as if to say, "Ah well, have it your way." ::I'm not the smartest person in the world. That's my best friend, Isaac. ::Eyes light up:: He's the one who got us out of the orphanage! ::Doesn't realize he's contradicting his opinions with this statement, but you forgive him and he continues to ramble about Isaac until you beg him to stop.:: |
| If you emptied out yah pockets on dis' table right now, watwould fall out? | ::Rummages through his pockets.:: Ummmm, an apple core, some licorice, a few pennies, peppermint sticks.... |
| How'd you find 'da place? | ::Shrugs:: We just found it. After me and Isaac got away from the orphanage, oh, did I tell you about Liese and Willy? Well, they're from Ravenswood and they got sent to the orphanage for some reason and helped us escape.::grins:: Liese is great. You've probably seen her sometime, she wanders around just about everywhere. Anyway, we were gonna stay with them in Queens, but they have lots of cats there and I can't stand them because I sneeze everytime I see one. ::Shrugs:: So we left and found this place. ::Grins.:: It's not bad here. Lots of nice people.... |
| You drink, smoke, gamble... | ::Nods eagerly:: Yeah, I drink! I especially like coffee and tea and that sarsparilla fizzy stuff that tickles my nose, and water's ok if there's nothing else to drink, and I really like warm milk with a little bit of sugar.... ::You've lost him. He heard 'drink' and took off running without hearing the rest of the sentence. You shake your head at his silliness and continue with the next question.:: |
| Related tah any'badywe'd know? | ::Shrugs:: Not that I know of. I don't really have any relatives, I don't think. Probably why I lived in an orphanage most of my life. ::Nods.:: |
| Who's yah best friend? | ::Grins:: That's easy. Isaac Bernstein. He's my very best friend and.... ::You tune out at this point because you've already heard almost everything about Isaac from Thad's earlier remarks.:: |
| Got any woyds tah live by? | You can't live without food. ::Grins:: Good, ain't it? I made it up myself. |
