Ms. Ruth Littlefield
Ruth stands as a very tall, very thin, neat-and-clean sharp-and-keen play it by the book devout Irish Catholic kinda woman. She was once beautiful, but now pulls her hair straight back with no make-up. Puts off a crisp manner to the girls, but was fun-loving and loud a long time ago. Her husband's death devastated her; she hasn't been the same since. Treats Darkness like
a daughter, although knows she's not and therefore knows she can't control her. Created by Darkness Martinez.Appears in Lighting the Darkness by Darkness Martinez.
Mr. Augustus Standish Augustus is the exact opposite extreme of Ruth Littlefield. He's loud, easy-going and generally laid back. He's been in the business of running boys orphanges and lodging houses since he was in his early 30's. He's now somewhere in his early 60's. An orphan himself, he knows what freedom means to a young man and therefore watches over the boys as carefully while giving them the largest amount of space he possibly can. Ms. Littlefield resents this; "a boys home should not be run like a pool hall!" To this, he usually replies, with a tip of his beat up old felt hat and a kind smile, "Well, Ruth, I never said I ran a boys home, did I? I run a lodging house." This puts Ruth and Augustus at an almost comical, constant war with each other. Created by Darkness Martinez. Appears in Lighting the Darkness by Darkness Martinez. Dr. Duncan Dupree Has been treating the newsboys and girls for a long time around Long Island; from back when they were scattered across the city before forming lodging houses. He's a kind, older man (around 55) who likes to joke. Visits the Long Island Newsgirls lodging house at least once every otherweek (for "check-ups!"), but the girls all know he's there to see Ms. Littlefield. He's been sweet on her since he met her. A gentleman from way back, he fits Ms. Littlefield perfectly. Created by Darkness Martinez. Appears in Lighting the Darkness by Darkness Martinez. Mr. Havelin Mr. Havelin is a tall, middle-aged, fairly handsome gentleman who works as a social worker with the Children's Aid Society. At the moment he is Skirts' Social Worker. Unlike many child reformers he understands that the children have their own rules and that they are very capable of taking care of themselves. He keeps an eye out for the children of Long Island and does his best to ensure their future. Created by Skirts Ranew. Appears in Starting Anew by Skirts Ranew.
Sky-High Salvatore If Pockets is quite a character, then Sky takes the cake. The biggest playboy this side of Brooklyn, he's a sweet-talker and charmer to no end. With chocolate brown, curly hair that has a swoon-inducing way of hanging over this violet-bluish eyes, clear olive skin, and a cut 6'1" stature, he's quite an attractive sight to see. Even before you throw in his stunning smile and wink that drives girls mad. Sky-High is a partner to Darkness and Bottles when it comes to "the Operation" - he owns 1/3 of everything. He makes quite a bit of the business deals, and can pull information from almost anyone, men or woman alike. He's got that easy way about him that makes a person feel at ease. And surprise, suprise, ladies - he's actually taken by Seven Corleone from Bensonhurst. Created by Darkness Martinez. Vonnie "Keys" Kotarski An Austrian immigrant, she floats around Coney Island and Sheepshead Bay (those being her favorite two places to frequent). She's got no lodging house and no set home, but Pockets always seems to be able to get ahold of her one way or another. She's extremely intelligent and quite cunning; her fingers and nimble and thin, and therefore she makes an excellent lock-pick and safe cracker. She never goes anywhere without her thin leather pouch containing her tools, and her ears are incredibly sensitive to listing for footsteps and the clicks of locks. Not exactly talkative, but she'll state her opinion on something quite loudly if she needs to (like sneaking into police warehouses, that it). Created by Darkness Martinez. Dallas Texas Dallas is an ex-Texas Ranger; after robbing a bank, he skipped town (and state) to head to New York City with his sister, Chericho "Cherry" Chaparral and best friend, T.K. Robinson. Chericho followed him to New York, whereas T.K. parted with him at Richmond and hopped a train for Chicago. After a few weeks of looking for work, Dallas found the perfect job attending horses at the Long Island Stables and Track. This proved to be a dream come true for Bottles and Darkness, for they recruited him immediately. He places all bets and gives all tips. He's never seen without his cowboy hat, and is known not only for his startling blue eyes, but being able to drink his weight in liquor as well. Created by Darkness Martinez. Switchblade Stoker Switchblade hails all the way from Staten Island; he's the enforcer of the group. He's wicked street smart, having possibly the roughest history of anyone in the Operation. Although his body is covered in numerous scars resulting from cigarette burns, knife fights, broken glass bottles, carriage accidents, and bullet wounds, his most prominent two scars are the ones that run from his right eyebrow to his jaw, and a large slash wrapping around the whole of his chest. He's madly in love with Misery Lee, leader of the Staten Island Newsgirls. He's quiet most of the time, only speaking when asked. He can't read or write, but that doesn't seem to bother him any - he doesn't have much use for it in his line of work. You don't need to know how to spell to murder someone, do you?
