"Why I Respect the Pot Party "
By: Kevin
I have just recently heard of this political party, and for those who do not it is called, honestly without doubt, the Pot Party. Yes the Pot Party, and it means everything in what its name is, legislation to legalize marijuana, that takes guts. The Pot Party is exactly what you'd expect; a bunch of marijuana legalization advocates, ranging in age from late teens to middle aged. In fact, their current tag line is: "A movement to pretty much legalize marijuana." One profile of a Pot Party leader says that he won High Times magazine's "Bong-of-the-Month" Award. Unlike the denials of a certain recent national politician, these people quite obviously, proudly and regularly inhale. No real candidates fielded to date (but they did endorse an unsuccessful candidate in 2000 for the Green Party's nomination for US Senator from California). They also seem to be actively involved in an online fantasy government entitled the US Parliament(official description: "A coalition of US voters based on votes cast, where 1/100th of the votes cast elects one of the one hundred members of parliament"). The party currently has state chapters, or groups, formed in California, Illinois and Virginia. Now you can see why I respect this oblivious party, because it takes guts to stand right in front of the other political parties and say it, “the *only* thing we want is to legalize pot!”
But what I don’t understand is why they won’t just make this part of the chain in their party, why not make a party that wants many other things along with the legalization of pot. You must know how stupid these followers look and are, but don’t get me wrong, I'm not against smoking pot but I don’t go hooting around holding up signs acknowledging that I am in the Pot Party, it’s a damn waste of time. Hell, why not just sit in your mothers basement smoking down with friends talking about legalizing it, why go out and give speeches? It won’t work, trust me…Has it worked yet? No it hasn’t.
Here is a little about myself…I live in Alaska, there, that’s all you need to know. But get this, in the past election for electing a new Governor, mayor and all that other stuff, we had a proposition on the polls to legalize marijuana…here in cold Alaska a lot of citizens smoke pot, a lot. Most of the people I spoke to, mostly friends and family, about proposition two (to legalize pot) said they would vote yes. Some said, “Well yeah, because I smoke pot.” But not everyone said that, some said, “I’d vote yes just because it would lower the criminal ratings a bit.” Realistically I don’t think it would lower criminal ratings but hey, it could. Could the Pot Party have something to do with this proposition two? I think so, the government order here in Alaska probably got so damn tired of the Pot Party lividly announcing what they want. The politicians in here knew it wouldn’t pass, so they figured, “What the hell, maybe it will get them off our backs.”
Anyways, back to The Pot Party. Instead of casting out television or newspaper ads for their campaigns they, of course, must rely on the internet. The only thing they have is a measly website to radiate their beliefs. On their website there is a small announcement on the main page saying, quote, “Meet at Window by the Bay Park, Del Monte Avenue, across from McDonald’s on July 4th, 2005, 2:15 to 4:20 pm in Monterey California for the national convention!” (By the way, if you would like to go to the website click here The Pot Party Website. I’m not saying they won’t get many people there, they will get a lot, but what a way to display a convention, and they call themselves a political party.
So, many of you are asking yourself, “What’s with the title?” The title of this rant is called “Why I respect the Pot Party,” and that reason is this…It takes guts to express that you are a dumbass, pothead, so called political party member. It’s insane.
