man of means

this is a poem in which i was requested to write for a fallen hero of the VFW. he was important to us at the VFW because he did a lot for all of us there as a volunteer, not to mention getting a VFW to our area. there is more that i could have written in his honor, but in some cases,.. less is more. i hope you enjoy reading it as much as i enjoyed writing it, God bless the USA, and texas too!!

	Man of Means A state of war leads the man To our door, not just a veteran A man of more, Texan clan. A Navy man ashore, an American. His mothers care never saw unrest Always buying a drink for the rest Never hesitating even for a guest Always making sure Todd was properly dressed. His love for his mother was always first His love for Texas, was a close second Next was the quenching of his thirst; Which he always beckoned. A man of whom we adore Leading the way above More than any man before A veteran we all be-love. A memoriam would be hard to place. A heart the size of Texas plains Never coming close to replace, Could only be a thought to entertain. In Korea he served his time; He pitched in his duty call, Not ashore, but maritime, Survived by few, remembered by all. Always first to ask how you were, When you walked in the door, Harking back, it all seems a blur Oh, how his memory we adore. Mickey�s circle is complete Only retrospect to add Made his mark in the elite Then God lifted his pen from the pad. What comes around goes around. Mickey gave anything he could give, For that he was renowned, Nothing else is comparative. By the river Jordan, on greener grass Mickey will be waiting for me Underneath the big oak tree When my time has come to pass Sometimes it is hard to define Knowing it doesn�t sound pleasin� Only understood by the divine Everything happens for a reason. Not enough words to describe, The pain filling our souls; Not enough ink to transcribe Thoughts to scrolls. A little of Mickey is in us all. His keepsake lives within our heart, Whether it is big or small, He left his memory truly set apart.
