Dove's (Personal) Review: "At First Sight" is the sequel to "True Believer." In order to fully understand this one, you must read "True Believer" first. Otherwise, don't bother with this one yet.
In "At First Sight" we meet all the same characters: Jeremy, Lexie, Doris, Mayor Gherkin, Jed (and Rachel & Rodney). We're also introduced to "Claire," but I won't say anything else about her, for fear of ruining too much of the story.
Jeremy and Lexie and engaged. He is now living in Boone Creek, they are expecting their first child, they've bought a house, and are planning their wedding. While all this is going on, Jeremy is also struggling to keep his writing career from going down the tubes. Both characters are "stressed out," and fighting more than they expected too. The pregnancy isn't going well, and they're terrified about possibly losing the baby.
There's lots of stuff happening in this story all at the same time, but Sparks manages to pull it all together quite nicely. This isn't his "normal" love story. This one is filled with heartache, anxiety, deceit, and anger, complete with a rather tragic ending. I was surprised by this, but I also found it refreshing. Afterall, life isn't always a bowl of cherries. As Erma Bombeck once said, "sometimes it's the pits."
Unlike "True Believer," this one is impossible to predict! If you enjoy a good cry, you'll love the ending of this one! Make sure to have a box of tissues in close reach!
GOLD-STAR, TWO THUMBS UP!!!
