Dove's (Personal) Review:  A captivating story about the life and times of "Billy the Kid" told through the eyes of Ben Sippy.
Ben's marriage is falling apart so he leaves home, looking for bigger and better things. He's a writer, famous for many dime-store novels about the American West. During his travels, he meets many interesting folks who later become characters in his books. Eventually, he meets a young man by the name of Billy Bone...
Billy's a young man with a slow mind and a quick temper. Always armed with numerous guns - but not a very good shot - his reputation as a killer is more impressive than Billy himself.
Not having anything else better to do, Mr. Sippy decides to travel around Texas and Mexico with Billy. Shortly after their travels begin, Ben Sippy finds himself appalled at how easily Billy can kill. In Billy's mind, everyone is fair game; men, women, and children alike all become unsuspecting targets, enemies or not.
Larry McMurtry is one of the greatest Western writers of all time; his book "Anything for Billy" further supports that notion! It's a wonderful story that sucks you in as early as page one. The characters are personable; the southern landscape (as the setting) is enticing; and as the plot thickens, the reader is left breathless after each murderous act.
"Billy the Kid," a character we love to hate (and hate to love), lives again in this marvelous Western drama! Definitely a GOLD-STAR story!!!!
