| Bali DENSPASAR When you leave the airport you have, like the book says, different ways to get to Kuta. I have met people who walked and people that were looking for cheap transport. I just took a taxi : 2.5USD. Get youself to POPPIES 1 or 2, or to Jl. Benesari, where you can find the cheapest accomodation starting from 3USD. They are not easy to find as you have little sidestreets which are part of the mainstreet; it is all a matter of searching, and if you want to ask...ask a tourist rather than a local. WARNING: - Allthough it seems to be safe in Kuta, there is a trick used often around here (and I even heard it was used in Malaysia also): You will meet people (girls, older man...) that will start a conversation with you and it will end up with an invitation to their house so you can talk about your country to their uncle, aunt, wives... Never go for a drive with these people! How beautiful or nice or sincere they may seem... And if you do anyway...I hope you like BlackJack. But never give any money!! I talk out of own experiences, as well as stories I heard after, so this really happens...a lot!! - Changing travelercheques is also a risk; if they start with giving you small notes, walk away! The trick is that somebody will come a start a conversation with you so the guy behind the counter can throw away some of the bills, after you have counted them. Just be careful, or go to the bank; you will find out that in the end it will cost you the same. ACCOMODATION: MAHENDRA Beach Inn Banjar Pengabetan (Poppies Lane 2) Kuta - Denpasar For the nightlife in Kuta, there are 3 places to go; Everybody will start in PADDY'S PUB, just accross the entrance of Poppies 2 in Jl. Legian. They finish at around 03.00am. Than there are 2 places where you can stay on partying until around 06.00am : - THE NEW BOUNTY, which is also in Jl. Legian. - CLUB 66, which is in Legian-town, about 2 km away at the beach. Entrance: 4USD To go to YOGYAKARTA (Java) from KUTA it cost me 15USD; I booked my bus in PERAMATRAVEL (jL.lEGIAN 39 - see book). You have to take the bus in the UBUNG BUS TERMINAL (to get there is not included in the price). Perama will get you there for 1.5USD, but only when they have at least 2 persons. If it is just you you will have to get there by yourself with a taxi or a bemo. By yourself you will pay around the 2USD for the bus to Gilimanuk. The ferry cost 0.5USD.
