HOURGLASS

He stared at the hourglass and it reminded him of two hearts emprisoning time forever flowing down, stopping only when the sand ran out. One twist of the wrist and the sand flowed again. It would go on forever, time would never end.

He thought about her in this way, about the love between them. A look, a smile, a kind word made the glass flip over, the sand running down again to measure their aging. He wondered if it was like that for her also, an hourgalss that was sealed, two hearts exchanging their measure and never allowing the outside to stop the flow.

It happened one day that time did end and he turned the glass on its side, when the sand had half emptied the top and half filled the bottom. Time had stopped and there they were trapped forever.
