GREEN
EYES
A
lady with exceptionally pretty, green eyes and a cute smile with
dimples steps up to the counter looking for directions. She has
also purchased gasoline and a bottle of water. The eyes get to
me immediately and our eyes lock on each other. A tiny smile
starts on her lips, her entire face is bright and inviting. I
smile back at her. I feel that we could get to be pretty good
friends. My mind says that there are possibilities.
She speaks and her voice is angelic and more beautiful than I
could have imagined. She smiles and the dimples get to me. I
give her directions; I ring her purchases. We gaze into each
other's eyes and say nothing and everything for that time,
longer than an instant but shorter than a lifetime, that
sometimes passes between two strangers. I don't know what to say
next; she thanks me and leaves. I think, maybe we could have.
She is thinking, "Maybe we could have." I smile, take
a deep breath, and sigh as I watch her walk out with a scrap of
paper that has my scribbled directions on it.
