The conviction of three Angolans on child cruelty charges raised concerns about exorcism practices among some African communities. Those concerns have been echoed in a police report leaked to the BBC which suggests children may have been trafficked into the UK for sacrifice. Three people have been convicted over the torture of an eight-year-old girl they thought was a witch. The Old Bailey heard the orphan was beaten, cut and had chilli peppers rubbed in her eyes to "beat the devil out of her", in Hackney, east London. The child's aunt was found guilty of child cruelty charges while Sita Kisanga and her brother Sebastian Pinto were convicted of aiding and abetting. Full article can be read here. Abuse case sparks new fears By James Westhead. BBC education and family correspondent. It was only by chance that the eight-year-old girl escaped her ordeal. She was found covered in cuts and bruises on the steps to her block of flats in Hackney, East London, one cold November morning. The street warden who spotted her while patrolling the Woodberry Down estate said she seemed "freezing cold and terrified." The shocking story she told revealed a litany of abuse by her own relatives - all committed Christians - apparently in the name of religion. Full article can be read here. Druids Gather on Cursed Tara By Caroline O�Doherty PLANNING disputes regularly end in curses but the raging row over the M3 and the Hill of Tara may have been caused by a curse, according to some opponents of the motorway plan. A team of determined druids yesterday set out to lift the centuries-old jinx which they believe was cast upon the ancient site in the middle ages by priests angry at the refusal of the reigning king to cede his authority to a member of the clergy.
