Let's talk about Yachting!   Page 1
Hi! I'm Flemming Stagis. I love to sail in our yacht. It is a Maxi 95 named Vandmelon (Watermelon).
The Maxi 95 was built and manufactured by Moelnlycke Marin, Sweden, during the 70s and was one of the most succesful designs ever made with more than 1500 boats produced. The Swedish designer Pelle Pettersson a famous competitor in many well known races and the father of the Maxi boats first made his new boat the Maxi 95 in 1973 with outstanding space inside and good sailing charasteristics as the most prominent features. This was revolutionary ideas in sailboat construction at a time when most other design was sleek hulls with small inside compartments. With a price of about 100.000 Swedish crowns at its introduction in 1973 it was an immediate succes. The production of the Maxi 95 was discontinued in 1982. However a similar design the Maxi 100/Maxi 100 Power Sails was still produced for some years. They had the same hull but a fixed doghouse a peak and a built-in bathing platform in the stern.
The Maxi 95 is a comfortable cruiser with good sailing performance particularly in rough weather due to its lead keel and wide hull. The boat is steady and easy to sail. Forepeak, saloon and aft cabin with beds for 7 grown up persons. In the saloon there is af drop-leaf table for 8 persons. A comfortable cockpit with a fixed drop-leaf table. Equipped with a Volvo Penta MD2B diesel.
We bought the boat in Oct. 1985 and have spent nearly all our holidays on the sea. We have been several times on the Swedish Westcoast, on the German coast and twice on the Danish island Bornholm in the Baltic Sea.
