Looking for the ultimate drinking challenge, Stevo and decided to embark on a mammoth pub crawl in March 1998. We had never considered anything like this before, and hit upon the idea of doing a pub crawl based on the Monopoly board game in London. A quick check on the Internet confirmed it had been done before, and on 15 April 1998, we set out to do our first ever 26-pub crawl, using two internet sources as a guide. We didn't quite stick to the plan and missed out on completion by two pubs.

As we were relatively unfamiliar with London at the time, we didn't note the exact details of where we visited. As a result, there are some question marks in this list:

1. Coopers, Kings Cross Station
Stevo missed his train from the midlands so I met him at King's Cross at about 1130. We had planned to meet at London Bridge and be at Old kent Road by 11, but of course it all went wrong. Special thanks must go to Stevo's housemate Graham 'Barrymore' who coordinated our meet up (this was in the days before mobile phones), thus preventing out London Crawling from dying before it had even begun.

2. Green Man, Old Kent Road
We caught the Thameslink from KX to Elephant and Castle, then got a bus to OKR, for the first of many trips to this Monopoly favourite.

3. Clutterbucks, Whitechapel Road
We caught the bus back from OKR via Tower Bridge to Aldgate, then walked up Whitechapel High Street to Clutterbucks. This pub appears to have disappeared without trace like an old motel in a ghost story, and we can't even remember where it was. It was a nice little pub, but it's gone now.
