"Closer" by Better than Ezra

And he knows his life is changing, its never easy letting go.
For the first time you are mortal and the child before you grows.
And he wonders at the sight of the joy that he has found.

Even closer than this life, closer than your faith.
Closer than the things you hold dearly, and in vain.
Closer than this life, falling through again
Giving more than anything that you could hope to win.
It was so quiet. We all just sat there, waiting for God knows what. There was a red glow from the emergency lights. Of all my years in this city, I had never been stuck on a subway. I felt responsible. I looked around studying the looks on everyone's faces. They all just had blank stares, except Taylor, he was slouched in the seat with his eyes closed, like he was dreaming. His sunglasses resting atop his head, and his soft blonde hair lightly dusting his cheeks. Joey sat holding my hand, he was so sweet, and smelled so good. He looked over at me to see if I was ok. He was about to say something but I just smiled and he smiled back.
Zac broke the silence with "Were stuck on the subway." Melissa looked at him, then looked over at me as if she was asking "did he really say that?"
"Yes genius boy, were on the subway and its not moving. That would classify as stuck." Taylor remarked with his eyes still closed. Am I the only one who found that as funny?
"What time is it?" I asked Joey
"Almost 2:30"
"Im hungry" Zac said.
"Im tired" I replied leaning over on Joey's shoulder and closing my eyes. I could faintly see the red glow through my eyelids. I put my feet up on the bench and Joey put his arm around me, causing my head to slide into his lap. I was enjoying this. I had no relative idea of the duration of my nap, but when Joey whispered for me to wake up, we were moving again. Oh, thank you subway god, I think. We eagerly got off the subway at the next stop. As we walked up the steps the the busy city above our eyes squinted, adjusting to the much missed sunlight. I was walking between Joey and Taylor with Zac and Mel following us.
"I think its time you told us where you were planning on taking us," Zac said from behind me "unless this is some sinister plot to brainwash us, steal our underwear and in turn sell them on Ebay for millions!"
"Zac, no one wants your underwear" Taylor remarked.
"Audrey does, dont you want my underwear Audrey, its all part of your plan. You'll be all over the Enquirer, 'Teenage girl makes millions selling rock stars' underwear.' Can I have your autograph?"
Just then Joey's cell rang. He mumbled a few words and hung up.
"Bad news guys, I'd love to join you on the mystery adventure, but my aunt had to go to the hospital and I got little cousin duty for the afternoon, Im sorry guys."
"Oh, its alright Joey, I hope your aunt is ok, If you want to stop by the studio we're recording some more tonight over a lovely canndelight pizza dinner"
"Thanks A, I'll try to stop by later, cya guys."
I saw a slight eagerness in Taylor's face after Joey had left. He all of a sudden went from his quiet mode to something completely opposite. "So hott stuff, where are you taking me?"
"Well, I did have a great suprise in mind, but due to the lack of participation (i.e. Issac's date and Joey's babysitting job) and our getting unavoidably detained, I had to cancel. So now, the afternoon is up in the air."
"So what were we gonna do?" he asked.
"Its a secret, I may still be able to pull it off someday"
"Oh, well I have a bunch of ideas swirling around in this head of mine." He said, taking my hand, putting his forehead to mine and doing that eyebrow raise thing.
"Let's go to Central Park" Mel said from behind me.
"Works for me" Taylor said, giving a suggestive look. I felt his hand slide into the back pocket of my jeans. This was going to be a great afternoon.
