This Week in Super Tecmo

Week 1 (September 8, 2005)

As of this writing the season is just 18 hours away; can you believe it? Rankings were just published, with Settlin 4 Second??? selected as the favorite to take the 2005 championship. Oddly enough, week 1 pits the projected top 2 teams against each other, as Settlin takes on the Steamers in what's sure to be a shootout. To add to the mystique of the game, the teams agreed to a blockbuster trade just a few short days ago, sending Terrell Owens, Arnaz Battle, and Dwight Freeney to the Brownies for Joe Horn, Eddie Kennison, and Zach Thomas. It helped the Steamers get a little more top-heavy and Settlin 4 Second??? a little more balanced, and it will be interesting to see who it pays off for in the end.

**Your picks for Week 1 Matchups**

*Upset Special*
Cleveland Steamers by 4 over Settlin 4 Second???

Settlin 4 Second??? was picked to be the #1 team, but a tough set of matchups may prove to be a little more than they can handle.

RuNNingBacKU by 17 over Big Wood

Wood's season is going to hinge on the performance of Peyton Manning and Priest Holmes, and neither have positive (or even neutral) matchups this week, thus should have a hard time keeping up with the high-powered Rupian offense.

Ickey Shuffle by 10 over *DeM BuFFaLo CaNeS*

Some good matchups for Ickey give him the edge, with shoddy run defenses against a team of running backs a poor matchup for anyone facing him. Tatum Bell still not starting in Denver isn't helping the Canes cause.

Seminoles by 3 over NH Hitmen

The Hitmen should struggle without one of their biggest threats, Antonio Gates, as he serves his one-game suspension for being a greedy bitch. The Seminoles should win some games this year, but this won't be one of the easiest by any means. This one could be decided on Monday Night.

Bay State Jaguars by 10 over Master of Puppets

It's not going to be an exciting game, as it pits two of the 'lesser' teams against each other in an early matchup. Bay State is relying on a big game for the Ram offense against the beleaguered 49ers, and with that should score just enough to win.

Polk High by 7 over Muscle From Russell

Greg started went undefeated (with one tie) in the regular season last year, but we're picking him to lose the initial game this year. With two big scorers facing stingy defenses, it'll be an uphill fight against the complete attack of Polk High.

MAS Attack by 12 over Funky Butt Muffins

The Muffins come into this one facing stout defense after stout defense. Being the lesser talent of the two squads, it needs big games to get by. At least we know one of these teams will win ONE game :-)
