Over the past few weeks, VanDeLay Industries has been rounding up draft picks
for the draft less than two months away. Today, a new idea was introduced. Why
not bring in another superstar to skate alongside Jaromir Jagr? So, it was done,
VanDeLay Industries, formerly known as the Motown Maulers, and the reigning
LiveGm Cup Champs, brought in the Russian Rocket, Pavel Bure. The cost was
essentially a 3rd and 12th round draft pick, along with 16th and 17th rounders
coming back to GM Londberg's organization. "We feel like we're a much better
team now. While we did lose Robitaille in the deal, we weren't especially
pleased with using him as a third keeper, and when Ryan Smyth was sent to the
Razorblades to take on keeper status, we didn't like going to the waiver draft
for our #3 either. I feel like we could have the top two scorers in all of
LiveGM next season. We have enough draft picks that it didn't kill us to give up
a 3rd and a 12th, but the trick is now to find bodies that will play for less
than they are worth. We did it often last year, and I see no reason that I can't
manage to manipulate the cap again."

Motown Maulers Trade Joe Thornton to Pepperell pucks for Sami Kapanen Maulers to dominate draft 06/14/02 17:57 LiveGM.com Associated Press The Motown Maulers kept their reputation alive from the regular season by being the first team to swing an active trade just one day after winning the LiveGM.com Cup. The Maulers sent star forward Joe Thornton to Pepperell for Sami Kapanen. The larger part of the deal showed Motown acquire the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round picks of the Pucks for the Maulers 15th, 16th, 17th picks in the draft. The Motown Maulers now have 5 draft choices in the top 36 picks, and are the early favorites to dominate the draft. The move no doubt helps to improve the guarantee by team GM Rick Longberg that the Motown Maulers would repeat their championship success into the 2002-2003 regular season. |
Note: A 1st Round Pick was attained from Sherwood Park at the Trade Deadline, and a 3rd round pick was given to Malochi for Chris Chelios at that same time.
