FAQ
1. Can players on farm teams be traded? Yes, they can be traded
just as any other player on your roster can be. You'll just have to post or
email me and tell me which players have changed teams if a trade is completed.
2. What type of draft are we having? We will be having a slow-live draft on
Yahoo. Although it may sound difficult, it really won't be. I'll select offline
draft and fill in each team's first round pick. From there, I will open rosters,
but you will pick up guys from FA as if they were your draft pick. The draft
snakes around, and you may only pick one player at a time (unless you are on one
of the ends). I hope this makes sense to everyone. We may have a few mistakes
through the draft, and these will be corrected by pulling off trades with the
picks. These will be non-negotiable trades. I'll randomize the draft order, and
I ask that EVERYONE gives me access to edit their rosters, so that I can go in
and make any changes necessary in case of draft or farm team mistakes. I will
give the teams access to the site so that our draft order will be set in the
order of entrance. That way, the order will always be posted in the standings
bar during the draft, and should keep everything straight. I'll also post an
order on here, but the Yahoo order will be much easier to use.
3. What is the farm team criteria? If a player has had over 130 ABs or 50 IP
before opening day, he is not eligible to be placed in minors at all. If they
reach this milestone between 4/1 and 8/1, they are only eligible for minors
during this season. If they reach the milestone after 8/1, they remain eligible
to be kept into next season.
4. When will the draft be? The draft will start sometime around 3/1. It may be a
few days earlier, or maybe a few days later, but that's the approximate date
that you should be aiming for.
5. Can players with no major or professional foreign league experience be
drafted in the regular, MLB draft? Yes, they can. You can draft your mother if
you want to, you'll just have to give me their name and organization. Since
we'll more than likely be using Yahoo, we don't need to draft replacement
players, you'll just post in the Message Board your pick and you will not gain a
roster player in that round. So at the end of the draft you may have 23 players
on your team, but will have drafted 25 guys. I hope that makes sense. Players
may be moved to the farm team immediately following the conclusion of the major
league draft.
6. Are Foreign professional players eligible for the farm team? No, since they
have played professional baseball in another country, and it is that country's
form of MLB, they cannot be given farm team eligibility.
7. What will our rosters look like? I don't really know for sure, nor will I,
until Yahoo opens and I see what they give me. Starters will be something like a
player at each position, with a utility IF and OF, like sandbox. I'd like to do
any 7 pitchers, and divide it up into starts and relief appearances, but I don't
know if I can do that. If not, it will be 5 SP and 2 RP more than likely. We'll
have about 7 reserves, give or take a few. Again, I don't know much for sure
until baseball officially opens
8. Are we allowed to trade draft picks? Yes, this year's picks can be traded
prior to, as well as during the draft. The draft will probably be about 25
rounds. Draft order will be given once Yahoo opens. Next year's draft picks
cannot be traded until a 2-week window sometime around July 1st. I can't stop
you from negotiating, so this gives you plenty of time to work things out. This
seems to be a happy medium for the guys from football who were opposed to
dealing picks altogether, as they do change a team's future for certain, but I
understand both sides' opinions.
9. What's the time limit for each pick? We will have 6 hours throughout the day (9 AM- 9 PM) to make our picks. If a team goes on the clock prior to 9 AM, the 6 hour rule doesn't come into affect until 9, so they must make their pick by 3 PM. If they go on the clock after 9 PM, they don't go on the clock until 9 AM the next morning. If someone runs out of time on consecutive picks, or if they run out of time 3 times during the draft, their next pick will only be given a 1 hour grace period, and the "through the day" rule will be extended to 12 AM, as punishment. We can't be dragging through this draft. It's going to be long, especially with the altered slow-live draft, and we've got to do all we can to expedite the process.
