Why we Homeschool |

I have always had a desire to homeschool. My older sister homeschooled her children and I wanted to. After learning that we were expecting our first child together, without question we had considered homeschooling but were unsure. Unexpectedly, our son was born prematurely at 31 weeks weighing 2 pounds 4 ounces. He had a brain bleed and numerous medical problems. We told not to expect the best. With prayer and faith our son survived and yet he has gone through so much in his life.
He has hydrocelphalus but has not required a shunt, craniostynotosis (which was corrected by 2 major reconstructive skull surgeries), liver problems, global delays and most recently a chromosomal abnormality (delection of the 2nd chromosome). He has benefited from early intervention as a baby and toddler but I wanted to do more for him as his mother and advocate. I knew I could work with him one on one and help him learn skills necessary in his life.
Yes, it has not been easy raising a special needs child but it has touched my life in words I could not express. If I had to do it all again, I would do it in a heartbaet if it meant having our son in our lives. It has been a reward to homeschool my son and see the spark in his eyes when he learns something new! I have never looked back at my decision to homeschool him.
