School Supplies Needed:
Books (in English) for kids , grades K-5
Chalk (they use chalk boards in the classrooms)
Writing Utensils - pencils, pens, crayons, marker pens
Laminated World Maps and Globes
Laminated Wall Posters - Alphabet, Numbers, etc.
Paper of all types- notebooks, lined paper, construction paper
Science Supplies - we didn't see anything there
Resource Books - Animals, Geology, etc.
Art Supplies - clay, paints, scissors, glue, rulers
Solar powered calculators
Wall-mount pencil sharpeners
Other supplies that the islanders could use:
Flour
Sugar
Rice
When you arrive at Fanning Island, you can leave your donations at the
Information Booth just as you come off the dock. They will get the donations
to the school. You can also walk to the school, it is down the road to the
left of the main area (about a 15-20 minute walk.) and is located on the
right side of the road (there is a sign.) The teachers were at the school
when we visited on a Sunday. You can also ask any islanders, who speak English,
to show you to the Headmasters hut.
We hired the local truck to give us a scenic tour and
visited the school, church and further around the island than we might have
walked during our visit. (We had less time on the island than planned due
to some engine problems on our ship- luckily we made it there!) |
