Fashion 2000

By Taha Tahir

A fiesta by the creek, a joyous crowd, the usual delay, tall models, perfumed ambience, a risky catwalk, and hot, hot music is how one would describe the Millennium Fiesta Winter Collection at the Creek Club. It was the last catwalk show of the century before Ramazan organized by Creative Works and the club management. The members and their guests were in attendance - over a thousand in number - and the younger crowd was energetically charged. The security arrangements probably kept their zest under check otherwise the organizers might have had to call it a day. The delay was another irritating factor.

Finally the thoroughly-lit catwalk saw Vinny, Iraj, Seemi, Rubab, Jia Ali, ZQ, Naveen and Nadia make a spectacular entrance to the exotic music, exhibiting the latest collection by the designers. The uneven catwalk saw a few models wobble now and then, though. The show was an amalgamation of the casual and formal line by Farida Qureshi, Humayun Saeed and Moazzam Abbasi. Saima did the models make-up.

The fashion show was followed by a concert by Junaid Jamshed. Bushra Ansari, Behroz Subzwari and Latif Kapadia made entries inbetween the concert with their 'not so funny' punch lines. The crowd due to its number became somewhat indisiplined now and then. The organizers should keep in mind that a limited crowd gives the best result at fashion shows.
