A PERSPECTIVE |

Enduring "family ties" is a strong cultural tradition. Rather than cutting off the unbilical cord of dependency, most parents suffer the pain of disappointment. They love their children regardless of what they turned out to be. Perhaps the hardest thing to do, is accepting their children's foreboding ethical values. |

I have concerns about the future of the next generation. Can you see what's going on nationwide? -- The decline of moral values and the erosion of ethical standards. Is this just a part of a changing time or a result to society's permissiveness and intolerance? |

As an immigrant, I experienced the difficulties of being a minority. I hope my children don't have to go through the hurdles and hardship I have encountered. It takes courage and self-discipline to be successful... even for a mediocre existence, one has to compete in order to survive! |

What kind of life the future holds for our children? I sometimes think that they are too self-centered and taking an awfully long time to be responsible. Not thinking that their parents are already in the twilight years of life, they procrastinate in preparing for their independence. Most parents would choose to put up with their kids' miscomings rather than risk enforcing family values that will cause dealienation. |

Is it wrong to love your children so much, to let them have their own ways, to let them depend on you throughout their young adult life? -- Can you rest in peace knowing that someday they'll be at a lost for not having the necessary skills to be on their own? Will they be cursing you on your grave for not working hard enough to leave them a mean of livelihood? |
