Lola of Maipon

Lola of Maipon (Lola ng Maipon, Lola sa Maipon) is
Bicol Region's own prophet. She started her own
religion in Maipon, a Barangay of the city of Guinobatan,
Albay province, Bicol Region, SE Luzon, Philippines.
Now she has thousands of followers all over the region.
While the church of Lola of Maipon is definitely Christian
and even based on Philippine Catholicism, she is a prophet
in her own right, comparable to Joseph Smith of the
Mormons (Latter Day Saints), Mary Baker Eddy of the
Christian Scientists, and Ellen G. White of the Seventh
Day Adventists. The hundreds of people wearing her
tee shirts, printed with her image and her message,
to be seen in the Albay Bicolano speaking area (Daraga,
Camalig, Ligao, Guinobatan, Polangui, Libon, Oas) and the
Central Bicolano speaking area (Legazpi City, Tabaco, Tiwi,
Buhi, Pili, Naga) testify to her popularity. Lola of Maipon
began her revelation in 1968 and recordings of her
prophecy are played at her Revivals.

I am only beginning to research this religion. The only
thing I have seen to distinguish its teachings from other
Christian sects is the assertion that those who believe in
Lola of Maipon will go to Heaven without dying. I am
attaching a copy of a Lola of Maipon pamphlet advertising
a Revival which was held on November 8, 2003. The
pamphlet is written in Tagalog. I will get it translated
as I can, but many of the Spanish loan words are
obvious even in their Tagalog spelling, Diyos is God and
Hesukristo is Jesus Christ, Sabado is Saturday, mundo is
world, henerasyon is generation, etc. The images are in
the style of Catholic icons. Note that the word Lola
means Grandmother in both Tagalog and Bicolano.

Anyone who can supply more information or materials
on this fascinating religion please send it to me at
[email protected].
Thank you.

Josefina Tayam of Paulog, Ligao, has provided me with
a photocopy of a pamphlet in English, which I am attaching.
Thank you, Josefina. I am particularly impressed by the
fact that Lola's movement eschews monetary donations.
