It appears as though we've stumbled into the tunnels and mazes
of the Dark Elves (or Dwarfs if you
prefer)
in our haste to leave Jotunheim. If we are lucky we may run into some of
the sons of Ivaldi. Artisans and craftsmen skilled in the working of gold
and silver. It was they that created Gungnir (Odin's magical spear that
never misses it's mark) and fashioned the most magnificent head of golden
hair ever seen for Loki to give to Sif (good thing too as Thor would most
likely have taken Loki's life once he learned that it was he who had cut
off his beautiful wife's hair as she slept).
Ahh, see there to one side? Working in the smithy. Those are two of
the most famous dwarf brothers
ever. Brokk and Eitri, they are craftsmen with no equal be they god, man
or dwarf. It was with them that Loki made a wager that they could not make
treasures equal to those he was carrying back to Asgard (Gungnir, Frey's
golden hair and the ship known as Skidblade). The challenge was accepted
and they produced the golden ring which was to become known as Draupnir
(every ninth night eight rings equally precious would drop from it), Gullinbursti
(a boar with golden bristles, capable of carrying any rider over land or
sea) and of course Miolnir (Thor's mighty hammer).
I don't feel it would be fair of us to disturb them while they are working
and since our trip is drawing to an end let us continue on. I am growing
weary as I am sure you are. Sleep and food seem to be the only things on
my mind any more.
