Why Lance?

I have a few reasons for choosing Lance. When I first really got into Evo, I decided I was gonna contribute to the then-small fandom. Lance, Kitty and Pietro are my three favourites, and at first I was gonna make a Pietro shrine, but then I realized that there were already so many quality Pietro shrines out there, that my page would just be one of many. ^^; At the time, I was also toying with the idea of making a shrine to Ken Ichijouji of Digimon, but I eventually decided on Lance, because Ken too has many a quality shrine. Mmm... quality shrines... but, I digress. Anyhow, my reasons for actually liking Lance are listed below, in no real order other than the one I think of. And yes, half of this IS copied straight from the old 'Why' page.

1. His comicverse counterpart (s). I support the theory that Rictor from X-Factor (waaaay back in 1989) is actually the comicverse version of Lance. I'll scan a picture of him, then you'll see! Mwahaahahaha!

2. He's evil! Well, kinda. Anyway, yeah, I'm one of those fangirls who loves the bad boys. Even when I was little and watched Tom and Jerry Kids I always rooted for Tom o.0 Got into a few fights about it too...

3. Long hair! I love long hair! Don't know why, but it's just so much more... sophisticated. No, that's not quite word... don't ask.

4. His personality. I like how he's got the sort of goofy (well, that's how it strikes me) side, but he also have the real angsty stuff happening. I sorta identify with him. Don't ask me how, but there it is.

5. He's funny, man! The way he acts around Kitty is just hilarious! (applauds) I love the 'tough guy goes soft around hyper-innocent girl' things!

6. As shallow a reason as it may seem, I love that name. I think when I was a little kid, my first friend's name was Lance or something, 'cos for some reason I've always had a weird attachment to that name (shrugs)

History of the Shrine

I've always wanted to make a website. Even when I was a dorky little ten-year-old using my mom's boss's Internet to look up pictures of Pikachu, I thought 'I wanna make a website about how much I love Jigglypuff!' .....I was a messed up kid. So sue me. Anyway, I later decided that I might make a website about the Legend of Zelda series, but for whatever reason that fell through. When we finally got the Net on, I didn't know what to do, though. My interest in the Zelda series simply wasn't INFORMED enough to make a site about, and there were soooooo many Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon sites already. I seriously considered the idea of making a shrine to Kaji from Neon Gensis Evangelion, but eventually decided against it for whatever reason. Then, Evo came along.

History of Metior's Interest In Evo

Yeah, most of this section is directly copied from the old site too. My memory's getting too rusty to recount it all from my head nowadays. Well, it HAS been almost 2 years since the first part.

The day before my birthday was a stormy one. My friend Ollie and I were bored. The Wednesday school play practice was cancelled, and I bored. Very bloody bored. Instinctually dreading the onslaught of math homework that awaited me at home, I headed to Ollie's house when it started raining.
After mindless channel-surfing looking for Pinky and the Brain, we came across a fat guy beating up a jock. Perhaps this is where I'd better note that ever since I was 7 and started watching the X-Men cartoon before Pokemon came on, I've been collecting X-Men comics. Got me a few rare beauties, too. And no, I do not trade under any circumstances. Sorry, but get your own damn comics.
Anyhow, I immediately recognized him as the Blob... and was kinda freaked. We watched it and agreed that it looked pretty cool. Nothing else notable happened, really. Went home, did the bloody homework...

One week later, Play Practice was again cancelled, much to my private relief -and not just because I kept forgetting my lines- therefore I was able to rush home and get there in the middle of 'Speed and Spyke' (bloody trams, always late, or early, or stopping, or not stopping... damn, I hate trams) and see Pietro. I fell in looove with him, and saw the 3-second clip with the rest of the BH. I must admit, it took me a few seconds to recognize Toad and Rogue-y, and at that time, Lance was simply known to me as 'that weirdo guy I don't know but looks kinda like Richtor'

The next week, play practise was on, so I missed my chance to see Lance-y, and, the week after, managed to catch 'Turn of the Rogue'. I hate that episode. Rogue so belongs with the BH! Anyway, I watched it with interest. Sadly, school play practice was on until term ended, and by then Channel 9 dropped Evo (which just sucks). This is the part I'm really ashamed of:

For about 3 months, I totally forgot about Evo. Anyway, I had just gotten the Internet, and was flicking through one of my N64Gamer Magazines during one of my not-so-frequent breaks. I happened to come across a letters column where one of the readers was asking about Zelda fanfiction. The letters answerer (bless their soul) mentioned FanFiction.Net. Being mildly interested in the idea of fanfiction, I checked it out and promptly became an addict. ^^; After a further month of plundering the Dragon Ball Z section and becoming thoroughly dissatisfied with the lack of Juunanagou (that guy ROCKS!), I started hanging around the Just In section.

Anyway, I happened across an Evo fic (I forgot which one) in one of the sections. I vaguely remembered it from all those months ago, and decided to read it. Needless to say, Metior, queen of all dumbasses, got totally lost but was very intrigued.
I went to the Evo section, and started reading. The very first fic I read, and I remember this clearly, was a fic by Red Witch (it was called home alone or something), where the BH boys were, you guessed it, in the big ol' house without Mystique.
I knew who Pietro and Freddy were instantly due to a recent comic-reading-fest, only took about 2 lines to figure out Todd's identity, but was totally stumped with Lance. I couldn't remember for the life of me anyone called Lance in the Marvel Universe, except this guy who was in, like, one issue of Spider-Man as a reporter. 0.o I was, by now, not as into DBZ as I used to be, and needed a new obsession.

Did I mention my computer had a virus during this period? Well, after an eternity of looking, I found an Evo site. Promptly, the computer crashed. An insane period went on where every time I found something do do with Evo, the computer killed itself. I was seriously thinking a higher power didn't want me to figure this out. BUT, my father and I, at 2am, no less, figured out the problems! Never trust pirated Antivirus programs, peoples. They only lead to pain and suffering! And don't get me started on the home-made memory chips!

Anyway, the computer was finally working again, and I realized that I still had no idea who Lance was. I'd gathered that he was codenamed Avalanche, but looked at a picture of Avalanche comic-style and nearly collapsed at the difference. Seriously, have you seen that guy?
Anyway, I looked around for more info, but found nothing but fanfics. However, I developed quite a liking for Lance, and thought 'Ah, what the hell? I wanted to make a website anyway!'. So, I made this site. About a month later, however, I came across a shopping mall store, a Myer I think, with Evo videos. Needless to say, I bought them ^.^ And, that's about all for this section...

The running of the shrine

Officially, the shrine's been up since 17th December 2001, however, its first account (metiorlance at GeoCities) was registered a lot earlier, and used as an RPG account. Uh, I'm sure there's a section on that somewhere else on the site... anyhow, we had around 7000 hits before I switched to Angelfire on the site's second account (gundam/metior). And this would be the third account of the shrine at loki_loire. Eventually I plan to get a domain name, but Geocities will do for now.

The world's most unimaginitave shrine name

I know, I know, the name sucks. -_-; I'll give a bit of background, though. As far as I know, MLS was the first shrine dedicated solely to Lance (I don't know if there are any more, honestly I really don't go looking for shrines that much), as well as being my first website, and I just didn't really want to be bothered to think up a site name. I was considering renaming it on the one-year anniversary, but that never panned out due to personal reasons (see below for a bit more info). So, I guess you're all stuck with MLS for now :D

The site's weirdo layout
An easy section. This site's layout has always been similar since the start; black background and yellow text on most pages. Sure, there's exceptions like the Cliques page (could you be bothered to change all those HTML codes? Well, COULD YOU?), but all in all, the site has the same layout on every page. Allows for easy loading.

The web-graphics I use
By web-graphics I mean my bullet icon () and my divider icon (look above you). The bullet is the symbol of the planet Pluto and the divider is the symbol of the planet Uranus. Let me explain: I'm a big fan of Sailor Moon, right? And out of the good guys, Pluto/Setsuna and Uranus/Haruka are my two favourites, as well as having the coolest symbols. I also happen to know of a highly addictive site with stuffage like the divider and bullet, and I needed some, so... yeah. ^.^ They were both obtained from Lycentia's SM Web Graphics Shop. :)

The Hiatus of Yore
A few people have been asking me about the hiatus. The Hiatus. It deserves capitals. From April 2002-March 2003, the site was pretty much dead. It was never updated, had a crappy layout and was all-around sucky. Due to extreme personal reasons, I couldn't update. I was going through some rough times, and have since disowned half of my family. No, I will not elaborate. My bestest friends don't know what happened, so I don't see why you should.
