I was born July , 1938. I grew up on a farm about ten miles southeast of Canton, SD. When I was in the First grade my dad helped me make a barn out of wood. During elementary school I made a number of lamps using spools and one for our neighbor out of wooden blocks. When I was in the 7th grade I got a 28" jig saw and took it to school and the teacher used it for making craft items for Christmas presents.
In 1990 I started making pull toys with moving legs or a mouth that opens and closes (like the hippo). The size of the toys range from 9 inches (duck) to 16 inches (wiener dog). I like using Oak and Walnut. My 3-piece wiener dog pattern came out of the magazine Popular Wood Working. Most of my other patterns are from the catalog Cherry Tree.
Most of the wood used has been recycled from pallets, beds, organs, or church coat racks. |
