Kain's Empire

The Turelim

History

Centuries past the time of the Pillars falling, Centuries past the Defeat of the Hylden Seraphan lord and Centuries before an Angel with Bat wings Fell from grace, Kain Sired his Dark sons.

The second of the Lieutenants to come into being was named Turel, and like his brethren Kain commanded Turel to raise an army to aid in conquering Nosgoth. Whereas Raziel received what was left of Kain's humanity and mercy, Turel received Kain's ambition - he sought to outdo his brethren and rule Nosgoth at Kain's side. With this objective in mind the Turelim Clan was born, an efficient and cunning army of warriors rivaling those of the Razielim.

While Raziel moved on the Western Territories and Zephon commenced his assault on the Cathedral, Turel with his brother Dumah marched north. While Dumah headed east of Dark Eden to subjugate the kingdom that once belonged to the now long dead William the Just, Turel made his home to the west of Dark Eden, raising the Northern Citadel - a fortress as beautiful as it was deadly.

However, the Vampire race was not as unified as Kain would have liked, and the dissidents - mostly those of the Cabal, the Vampire resistance - broke away and hid in Nupraptor's Retreat. With Dumah busy in the East and Raziel occupied securing the west, Kain commanded Turel to destroy the rebellion, and it was a task Turel was more than eager to fulfill for his master. Massing much of his forces, Turel marched on the Retreat intent on sparing nobody. This was his long-awaited chance to attain Kain's favor, by stamping out those who defied Him. He would not fail.

The battle of the Retreat has often been considered Turel's finest hour, as the enemy had deeply entrenched themselves inside the skull-shaped keep overlooking the waterfall. Examining the fortress for days, Turel eventually devised a plan to topple the keep, bringing it down from its perch and those inside who would have survived into the hands of their enemy. To Turel's delight, his plan worked; by nightfall the dazed and stunned defenders were being assailed by three times their number. The result was a massacre - Turel himself claiming the life of the renegade leader, who called himself Faustus.

Returning to the Sanctuary of the Clans after securing the Retreat as part of his territory and leaving instruction to the Citadel, Turel presented Faustus' head to Kain, full sure that the favor he sought was his. However, Turel was not the only Lieutenant in the throne room - Raziel was also there, by his master Kain's side. When Turel finished his debriefing and handed over the head, he then learned that Raziel had single-handedly saved the northern campaign and by doing so became Kain's right hand.

Infuriated and distraught that his plans had been for nothing, Turel returned to his lands and prepared for war, this time on a much larger scale than the Retreat. Unknown to all but Turel himself, he wondered if Kain were truly worthy to be the leader of the empire - these thoughts quickly evaporated however. Kain was Turel's sire, and His will was that of Turel's. Soon the Turelim spread out, taking the towns of Vasserbunde, Coorhagen and pushing as far as Uschtenheim, meeting few defeats and many victories. Whether this would last, and whether Turel could usurp Raziel as Kain's favoured son, time would tell.

Doctrine

To a Turelim, style is everything; this is evident from whence you first lay eyes upon one or even their Citadel. Their clothes are elegant and fashionable, and often a deep green (the Clan's color). Everything is some kind of art form to them albeit a dark art that only Vampires could understand the true beauty of. This even extends into their war making practices: everything must be carefully planned out, and each action connected with another to form one giant masterpiece of strategy and tactics. A Turelim army is a sight to behold, its gloriously decorated banners flying proudly above rank upon rank of warriors. These armies can be described as being disciplined, stylish, and extremely dangerous. However, when things do not go exactly to the plan of one of these vampires, it is hard to motivate them into another plan of attack - unless your Kain, that is.

Weapons and Armour

The sword is the preferred weapon of choice of the Turelim Clan, being a more elegant weapon than say the axe or mace.  Each sword is finely crafted and stylized with either the Turelim or the Vampire in particular's personal seal.  It features a cross-guard and long pommel of solid bronze and a finely tooled, one-handed hilt that is bound in green leather.  The pommel of the sword is stylized in a cruel parody of a crown.  The blade is three feet long, has a relatively flat cross-section and has a thin fuller down the whole length.  This makes the weapon relatively light given its size and allows to the wielder to swing it with some speed.  A mixture of longbows and crossbows is employed for ranged attack, Vampires favoring the crossbow.  Heater (or heraldic) shields are carried also, but are smaller than those carried by say the Razielim, and are more ornate.

The armour of the Turelim reflects their stylish leanings and their status as secondborn Clan.  Beneath all the plate armour, the Turelim wear simple and close fitting black trousers and shirt, which extends down to the wrist.  Over this is worn a steel cuirass, upon which is embellished the Turelim symbol.  A steel collar, worn under the cuirass, protects the throat.  A rich dark green woolen cloak is tired around the shoulders, and over this is worn large pauldrons that sweep around the shoulders.  A pair of leather gloves are worn to provide protection for the hands, while steel greaves and cuisses are worn to protect the shins and thighs respectively.  Covering the lower portions of their face, including their nose and mouth, the Turelim worse silk black masks; only captains wear helmets to distinguish themselves - this is a helm containing a T-shaped visor.

Supernatural Abilities

As some of Kain's telekinetic abilities were imprinted into Turel's DNA, it was inevitable that his Clans show similar symptoms. As such, on average one in five Turelim show signs of being Telekinetically sensitive, though only in the ranks of the Fullbloods. Without a tutor to sense, and hence nurture and develop these talents, however, the vampire will find no use for them. at the moment, only Turel seems to be able to tutor his underlings, and hence gaining his favor is high priority among his servants.  It has been noted that a Turelim Vampire is on average weaker than his brethren in strength, but tougher and able to take more punishment.  They are also highly sensitive to high-pitched noises.
