Ruby, for Fallen Angel Reviews says,

Lois Wencil is brilliant. Her writing is extremely powerful. The story of this courageous woman is heart felt. It appears to be more then just a story by how in depth the emotions run. A Mistress gets a Master is a wonderful book to read if you want to feel true emotions from two strong characters, to envision how Amber, the Golden Retriever, must have felt with the conflicts going on in her world and the disability this lady lives with and doesn't use as a crutch. She fought the world, the ex husband, and her fear and she lives. Excellent Story.. Read full review here!

Gabrielle Channing for NovelSpot (Romantic Interludes) says,

The first two scenes were in the heroine and hero’s point of view, but Lois Wencil completely won me over by the third scene where she engagingly and convincingly wrote in the POV of the dog.

This was the story of Lisa who was getting her first guide dog, Boyd who was the guide dog’s trainer, and Amber, the golden retriever who did her best to bring her two favorite people together.

Lisa had not been blind for long, and she had a lot on her plate. In addition to losing her sight, she also lost her philandering husband. The dog trainers assured her that having a guide dog was the first step toward the independence she so desperately needed; and that was a good thing, because she had to find a job to be able to support her three year old son, Tommy.

Lois Wencil has written a charming and engaging story that is a quick read. She displays an expert knowledge of the pacing of the romantic contemporary. The relationship between Lisa and Boyd is one that develops logically and is helped along with a natural repartee and well-rounded character development. Additionally, Lois writes with great authority about many aspects of the developing relationship between a blind person and a guide dog. I do not read many contemporaries, but when Ms. Wencil writes another book, I will go out of my way to read it.
