FAMILY STORIES

"Jimmy Sees Stars"

»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«Lois Caywood Guffy»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«

On one clear summer night back in 1955 the stars in the sky were absolutely beautiful. You could clearly see the milky way.  It was such a nice night I decided to take our little Jimmy , age 4,  out to the machine shop where his daddy was working on some machinery.

Like my father, I had always told the children all about the sun, moon and stars that God had placed in our universe, so the sight we saw was especially impressive for this little son of ours.

We lingered way past Jimmy's bedtime watching my husband work. I finally told Jimmy that it was past his bedtime and we needed to go back to the house and go to bed. I knew he was not ready to leave, but Jimmy was one never to question an order from me or his daddy, so he placed his little hand in mine and we started walking slowly toward the house.

As we approached the house, he looked up, pointed to the bright stars in the sky and said "Look mommy, see there, it's not late.  God still has his lights on."

I am glad it was dark or he would have seen the tears well up in my eyes and not have understood why.
