Back in 1958 my parents lived on a farm some 17 or so miles away from our house. I always took my children there to visit every Sunday.
There was a small store between both homes that had anything one might snack on. For a weekly treat I let the children pick what snack they wanted.
For some reason this Sunday did not go as smoothly as usual and I decided to just give them some money and the older two could buy their goodies, while I sat in the car with the baby.
Seemingly one wanted something that was over the budget and the children made several trips between the store and my car. While sitting there I had observed a lady sitting in a car close to mine watching us closely. One could tell she was wondering what was going on.
When the seven children finally got back to the car and were loading up, she rolled down her window and said in a very thick Texas accent "Maaam, are all of those children yours, or are you all going on a Sunday School Picnic ?"
I replied "Yes mam, they are, and it is certainly no picnic"
End of story nooooo.........
A couple of weeks later I was at my sister's home in a nearby town and she was "gushing" about the new sweet lady who moved next door and wanted me to go meet her. We knocked on her door and when the lady opened it, we both gasped. It was the Texas lady whose husband and she had just moved to town from Texas. She yelled for her husband who was in the back room to come see the lady with all of the kids that she had told him about.
