"Itchy feet"

One of my most embarrassing moments happened in the 1950's.

When our many children were younger, we could not afford a lot of entertainment outside the home, so we would have our good friends Paul and Bette Parker over to play cards. We alternated going to each others homes each Wednesday night. The children would go off to play and we'd set up the card table for our games.

Now remember, I have been a barefoot "Okie" since I was a small girl and to this day kick off my shoes as soon as I enter our home.

We were sitting at the card table and of course my shoes were off.  My husband, Wayne, sat to my right of the card table, Paul to the left and Bette across from me. I was thoroughly enjoying rubbing my bare foot up and down Wayne's hairy leg and got a little carried away going up higher under his jeans leg. I did this for a long time.

After a long while Paul looked at me with a wide sheepish grin and said "Lois, I wish you would quit rubbing my leg."  I was literally shocked and quickly took a glance under the table and sure enough, I had been rubbing the wrong person's leg ! I did notice that Paul had glanced at me a few times while I was rubbing "Wayne's" leg, but at the time I supposed he was trying to decide what hand of cards I held. I am sure now he was trying to figure out if I was making some sort of a pass at him. I turned beet red and never won another hand of cards that night, I never rubbed anyones legs again either.
