Ole Syverson (Severson) was born May 3, 1837 in Norway. His parents were Syver Sorensen and Guri Nielsdotter. Ole had a sister, Eli Syversdotter (called Ellen in the United States) born November 9, 1834 on the farm, Engeset, Land Parish, Christian Amt (County), Norway. Ole and his sister, Eli and their spouses immigrated to the United States probably around the late 1860's. No details of their immigration are available.
Much information regarding Ole was discovered through descendants of his sister, Ellen. Ellen was married to Christian Olson. They had a daughter, Marie Olson who married Christian Martinson. After immigrating to the U.S., they lived near Maskell, in Dixon County, Nebraska most of their lives. Marie died in 1942. At one time Ole lived on the Martinson farm.
Ole was married to Helene Marie Olsen. They had four sons:
It is not known what happened to Helene Marie. She appears in the 1870 census with her family. She is not on the 1880 census and at this time Ole is living with Christiana Lyng who appears on the census as Ole's wife, she was acutally a common law wife.
Apparently Helene Marie leaves the family somewhere between the birth of Charles in 1872 and the census of 1880.
Family lore regarding Helene Marie Olsen's absence includes the following stories:
