GIG REVIEW - WHAT THE LOGSNAPPER SAYZ!!!

The evening began with lots of very keen fans waiting outside the doors of the Enmore Theatre, of all age groups and from all walks of life (except for the stupidest looking homeboyz who'd probably rather be wasting their time at the Enimen concert - if there was one, but good thing there wasn't).  Not all were the prototypical 'Westie' Headbanger types, but the music was nevertheless in their veins.  Otherwise, why would they be wasting their time and ours at a Judas Priest gig?

Just when I thought Heaven were well and truly gone, they were still alive and kicking!  And, boy, did they kick some freckle!  Being a cross between Saxon and AC/DC (in my opinion), they belted out the old faves.  My fave song of theirs was the classic 'In the Beginning', the anthem-like number where they included Judas Priest on their 'list of credits'.  Unfortunately for Heaven, their stage act was 'scaled down' so it did not outshine what was to come next.

Yet, there was no way they could do it.  My ears were ringing like crazy, but I could not leave.  Minutes before the first number, the venue pretty much filled up and was PACKED.  Priest kicked off the show with 'Metal Gods', my fave track from the British Steel album.  This was soon followed by another freckle-kicking number, 'Heading out to the highway'.  They also belted out a few ditties from the 'Demolition' CD - 'One on One', 'Hell is Home' and the like.

There were also the old classics:  'Diamonds and Rust' (the 'unplugged' version), 'The Ripper' (preceded by Ripper Owens repeatedly asking the frenetic audience, 'What's my name?' until they answered 'The Ripper' louder for each time they were asked), 'Victim of Changes', 'Breaking the Law'.   Some of the older tunes were also in the encore, like 'Electric Eye' and 'Hell Bent for Leather' (which was, of course, preceded by Ripper coming out onstage on a Harley).  Ripper kept on looking as if he was going to walk offstage, making the fans scream out for more.  And they did get more!  However, all good things must come to an end, and when the band finally did walk off, I could hear a few members of the audience scream out, 'Get back on, ya bunch of pansies!!!'

I could have stayed there forever and ever.  I could have went to the afterparty, but unfortunately changed my mind.  Other regrets included forgetting to buy a souveneir t-shirt and not booking a dance-floor ticket.  While I managed to sneak my camera in and get a few shots, they hardly did the band or the show any justice.  I mean, the stage act and lighting were bloody brilliant.  One could not help but want a memento of having seen the band performing on their turf.  I went home visually and hearing impaired, but it was well worth it.
