Seeing I had little to do on a Saturday afternoon, I figured I might toddle off down to Camperdown, one of my old haunts during my childhood (because I had to go to the dentist and my mum used to work in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.  The gig, which was meant to start at around about 12.30-1pm, did not get to start until after 4pm.  What a bugger!  Thankfully, this gave me, Zandrah and Sean enough time to have some lunch before watching some great Black Metal (and 'underground' metal) bands perform.
First on the bill was Intorment Black, a Sydney-based Black Metal Band in a similiar vein to Children of Bodom, Amorphis and Sodom (I must admit the lead singer sounded very much like Angel Ripper)..
Next up was Anxiety Whispers, a 'Nu-Metal' band with an industrial but 'jumpy-jumpy' feel to their sound - similiar to Soufly or Slipknot.  Yet funnily enough, the lead singer looked like Bruce Dickinson with black hair, baggier trousers, and minus Bruce's talent (sorry if I offended anyone, but 'nu-metal' is not really my cup of tea.  I am much more of a power-metal fan).

The most impressive band I saw on the bill were At First Light, a great, full-on but melodic Black Metal band, which in my opinion sounded like a mixture of Amorphis, Dark Throne, Children of Bodom and, strangely enough, Metallica (with the guitar solos).  I was most impressed with their performance, I must admit, and Darren (the drummer from the band) had informed me (via email) that my review was 'awesome'.  Obviously, he must have felt flattered!!!.
THINGS I LIKE AND DISLIKE ABOUT THE CAMPERDOWN BOWLING CLUB:-

LIKE:
1.  It is near the city;
2.  It is close to public transport;
3.  It is near the hospital;
4.  It is near where the Children's Hospital used to be (I have fond memories of the hospital because I used to like going there because it was a good excuse to get out of going to school or kindergarten, and Mum used to buy me chocolate milkshakes and angel cakes at the canteen);

DISLIKE:
1.  The timing of the gig(s) - was supposed to start at 12.30-1pm, but did not begin until after 4pm.  Whether or not it was because of the venue, I don't know.
2.  The lack of space for the bands to perform.

I took some pics of the bands I got to see perform and you will all be pleased to know that I have just posted them up for all to see.  I would have liked to have stuck around til the end and watched all of the bands, but due to not having my own transport and having work committments, I had to leave early so I could get up on a Sunday morning.  Had I been able to stay, I would have been in more of a position to give a less biased opinion.

If you wish to express your opinion on the bands reviewed, and the others then please email me
here.
