After a gruelling week up at Armidale because I had to be there for my studies with the UNE, I could not have thought of a better time to let off some steam, release some tension and have some fun, c/o Rocks Rhythmboat, where three bands were playing on board - Descend, Sindablok and Dungeon. And, of course, many of my friends were there to help me do it (have fun, that is).
First up was Descend, what I could call a 'thrashy' death metal band similiar to early Slayer and Metallica. They seemed to draw a fairly large crowd and really seemed to kick ass. They did some great covers of Metallica's 'Damage Incorporated' and Slayer's 'Angel of Death'.
Second on the bill was Sindablok. Their sound was somewhat reminiscent of Cryogenic and Fear Factory, with a tinge of 'nu-metal' mixed in with it.
Finally, Dungeon appeared before an appreciative audience. They kicked the set off with the classic 'No Way Out'. This was to be followed by a few favourites, including 'The Legend of Huma', 'Paradise' and 'Wake up' (the names of the two latter songs were changed to 'Parrot Arse' and 'Wanker' - presumably because some people thought that's what the songs might have been called when they heard them sing them). Also, one could not go wrong with covers of Accept's 'Fast as a Shark' and Judas Priest's 'Electric Eye'.
I must say that a good time was had by all - it was just too bad it could not go for longer.
Stuff I do and don't like about the Rock's Rhythmboat Gig LIKE: 1. Love riding on boats - especially when the weather is good; 2. It was a good day; 3. Everything went as scheduled; 4. Alot of good bands play on this boat - including Dungeon; 5. Most of my friends were there (except Zandrah - it is a pity she is not into power metal); DISLIKE: 1. It was too small to accomodate the bands' equipment; 2. Packets of crisps (Kettle Chips) cost $4 - I was so annoyed that I'd rather starve than spend that much on a packet of crisps.
Good to see some friendly faces aboard the boat.
