Our Awesome God
Psalm 66: 1-5
Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name; Make His praise glorious. Say to God, "How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power
Your enemies shall submit themselves to You. All the earth shall worship You And sing praises to You; They shall sing praises to Your name." Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men.
Have you ever sat down and tried to consider all that God is and all that He has done?
David tried and wrote in Psalm 40:5 - Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works
which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order;
if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. It's kind of like an ant trying to figure out man and all that he has done. As the psalmist said, God is awesome in all His works. It would be impossible to try to figure out God, to try to explain all that He has done. We serve an awesome God. No one or no thing could ever compare to Him. It still amazes me that man is still trying to explain creation, to explain why we are here and how we got here. Man refuses to believe in God, and yet, He is the explanation for everything. It is by Him and Him alone that we are here. Look at Job 9:1-12
Job said: What you say is true. No human is innocent in the sight of God. Not once in a thousand times could we win our case if we took Him to court. God is wise and powerful-- who could possibly oppose Him and win? When God becomes angry, He can move mountains before they even know it. God can shake the earth loose from its foundations or command the sun and stars
to hold back their light. God alone stretched out the sky, stepped on the sea, and set the stars in place-- the Big Dipper and Orion, the Pleiades and the stars in the southern sky. Of all the miracles God works, we cannot understand a one. God walks right past me, without making a sound. And if He grabs something, who can stop Him or raise a question? How can anyone reasonably argue against the existence of God and His creation? The evidence is all around us. As Job said, we could take God to court and argue our point, but who is going to win? The evidence is clear. The evidence is irrefutable.
I. God is Awesome in His Creation of the Big Things - God created everything. John 1:1-5
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. It has been argued time and again, but the evidence has yet to be produced that will support evolution as a clear-cut explanation for our existence.
It has been said that our universe was created by a "big bang." Just from a common standpoint, That had to be one heck of a big rock!!!!!! Scientists and Astronomers all agree that there are trillions of galaxies and that in each of those galaxies there are billions of stars. Now, if there are billions of stars in each of those galaxies, I can't even imagine what the size of that rock, that supposedly exploded billions of years ago, would be. Also, I've never heard of anyone who has tried to explain that part either. All you hear about is the big bang. You never hear about how big this rock is supposed to be. I've read that, if it were possible, our sun could hold three hundred thousand of our earths inside it. Also, there is another star, named Antares, that could hold 64 million of our suns and in the Constellation of Hercules there is a star that could hold 100 million stars the size of Antares. Also, the largest known star, called Epsilon, could easily hold 27 billion of our suns. I know it is hard to imagine the size of these stars, but if there is a star that can hold 27 billion of our suns, and our sun can hold 300 thousand of our earths, and there are hundreds of thousands of stars in trillions of known galaxies. How big is this rock they're talking abou?. On top of all that, if this rock existed, what made it explode? How did the galaxies form? How do they hold together? What causes the earth and all the other planets to stay in a perfect orbit around the sun? Why out of all the planets in our solar system, is the earth the only one that has life?
We serve an awesome God that made a universe so immense that it still baffles the most intelligent people that have ever walked the earth. God created the big things that we can easily see.
II. God is Awesome in His Creation of the Little Things - Isn't it amazing how all the little things in our earth work together to form all that is here? Look at the tiny little microscopic atoms, so small that you can't see them without special equipment. Yet, without them, there would be nothing here. They form together to make everything! What keeps these little atoms together? Well. The Bible says that Jesus does. Look at Colossians 1:16&17 - Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see--kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together.
It's Christ that holds the atoms and molecules together. The world would have you to believe that these tiny little things just happened to find each other. Some decided they would be rocks, some birds, some people. It even gets deeper than that. Inside each of us are trillions of atoms. How did these atoms just happen to form blood, skin, the brain, the heart? Those are just a few of the thousands of things in our bodies that the evolutionists would have to believe just happened to form to make us. If that wasn't enough, how did these atoms that just happened to come together to form the cells, organs, and systems of our bodies, come together in a way that works together to form our bodies, perform bodily functions such as sight, hearing, touch, movement, and thought, not to mention all the other functions that I don't have the time to go into. If it wasn't enough to have us to believe that, they also want us to believe that these atoms that just happened to come together to form our bodies, also can unite with another body that was formed the same way (only it formed to be a different gender) and produce another entirely different body of atoms that just happened to bond together in a way that forms the human body, only much smaller than the other two, and now has to grow (who told those tiny little thoughtless atoms to do that?). WOW!!!!! That is so much to try to take in at one time and we've barely scratched the surface of the small creation of God. Our God is an Awesome God, and He shows it in the Small things of creation.
III. Our God is Awesome in His Love for Us - First, let's look at the following verses:
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Romans 5:8-11 - But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
God loves us !!!!! Can there be any greater statement in the whole world? If there is, I haven't heard it. The Creator of the universe loves me. He loves you. He loves the whole world. Even though we deny Him, mock Him, use His name in vain (in a useless manner), even though we say we love Him and act like we don't, God still loves us. My friend, that is awesome. Nothing can compare to the love He has for us. Nothing can compare to the peace that comes into your heart when you accept Him as your Savior. Nothing can compare to our Awesome God.
