Is The Book Easy to Understand?

Chapter 8

Day 4

Some of these books are very dry reading unless you enjoy that type of book. I happen to like history. Some people find history very dry reading. To each their own. However, don’t let that keep you from finding out about the bible. I’m not saying you have to read every page of every book. You should be familiar with all the books and what they contain. If you need information about a certain region, or incident, you know where to go and find it.

The same is true for translations of the bible. I find the King James version of the bible very confusing and hard to understand because of the Shakespearian language used. The New King James is very easy for me to understand and I read it a lot. The New King James uses more modern language but says the same thing as the original King James version. There are no scriptures left out and I am more comfortable reading it. Why not use the new version?

There are some of the older commentaries that are hard to understand. Some of the writer seem to try to outdo one another at using big pricy words. These commentaries can not only be confusing, but time consuming as well. Even some of the college graduates have to stop and look up some of the big word that are no longer used. There are more modern and more down to earth commentaries on the market. I use the later commentaries most of the time and only go to the older ones when I can’t find what I’m looking for in the later ones.

I didn’t tell you about this before because I had hoped you would have tried some of these books in hard copy by this point. For those of you who can tolerate a computer, there are computer programs to help you study the bible. In fact I have an entire library of over 300 books in my computer program. Most of the bible translations, 4 commentaries, 3 dictionaries, two concordances and many other books are at my disposal and I saved thousands of dollars by buying the computer program. The computer program I have is only one of many and I am considering changing to another program as soon as I get the money. I found one that is better than the one I have.

The good thing about the computer programs is the convenience.  I don’t have to get up to get a book, I just push a few buttons and I get the book already turned to the correct page. As a matter of fact it will turn all the books in my study pack to the correct page at the same time. Just as you would the books, research and find the computer program that is right for you. I do my research on my knees.

Making your reference books easy to understand is simple. Ask God to help you select them and teach you to use them. Each time you study ask God to study with you. When I remember to do this, I’m so overwhelmed by my hunger for God’s Word; I find it easy to endure the side effects of dry reading and enjoy the food of God’s understanding
