Day 5
In chapter three we talked about the “Warnings of the End Times.” As
important as these warnings are, they are not as important as some of the other
warnings. In this lesson we are going to talk about and learn to recognize some
of these other warnings.
Warnings
To The Wicked: Who are the
wicked? In today’s society most people believe they were the unsaved of the time
who cheated their neighbors. There was no such thing as an unsaved person in the
Jewish community. Every person belonged to the nation of Israel and the entire
nation was God’s Chosen People. The wicked, whom Aspah was talking about in this
scripture (Psalm
50:16-17) were the
Hypocrites. Adam Clark describes them as the bloodthirsty priests, Pharisees,
and ignorant scribes among the Jewish people. These were people who worshiped
among the righteous people and pretended to love God but hated His instruction
and refused to live the way God instructed them.
The wicked of today are the heretic preachers
who deceive their congregations and tell them what they want to hear so they
will give them more money, Christians who think they can live in sin all day
then go home at night and ask God to forgive them and everything will be ok,
teachers and Theologians who try to deceive the Christian community with their
writings and teachings (Matthew
11:16-30; 3 John).
There are over 300 scriptures that warn of the
punishment of the wicked.
Warnings
about Prayer: One of the most
quoted verses of scripture about prayer is 1 John 1:9. If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just and
will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. People
like this verse because it assures them that if they stumble
occasionally
their sins will be forgiven. This verse does come with a warning. The words “and
just” were put there for a reason. Most people tend to read over them and pay
them no heed. Well, you can’t do that. Jesus tells us if we want our sins
forgiven we must first forgive the sins of others (Matthew
6: 14, 15).
There are over 80 scriptures that tell us God does not hear a sinners prayer
(John
9: 31).
You will also see a warning in that verse. It states “He listens to the godly
man who
does His will.”
If you look up every verse of scripture concerning prayer, you will find there
is a condition (warning) attached to each of them.
Warnings
About Salvation:
There are many myths about salvation. Some believe you must clean up your life
before you can receive salvation, some believe you must physically seek out
those you have sinned against and ask for their forgiveness and there are many
others. Salvation comes only through belief in Jesus Christ (John
3:16).
However, there are conditions for keeping salvation that most preachers ignore
and never tell you about.
Jesus stated that if we loved Him, we would keep
his commandments (John
14:23-27).
This doesn’t mean we can keep only the commandments that are convenient for us,
nor does it mean we can keep the commandments part time. We must keep the
commandments all day every day.
In Paul’s writings we see several conditions of
salvations (Romans
6: 1-6).
Paul states we must put off the old man and put on the new man (Colossians
3:1-17).
Paul also stated in (1
Thess
5:1-11)
his letter to the Thessalonians that we must be awake and alert at all times
because of the second coming of Jesus.
There are many other warnings concerning
salvation in the Old and New Testaments we need to read and be aware of. The
strongest of these are contained in Hebrews
10:1-18.
