Things Are Different Now, Has Christianity Changed?

Chapter 4

Day 5

In today’s world we have the hustle and bustle of automobiles, the noise of trains, the fast transportation of airplanes, the monopoly of television, the frustrations of computers, and we have the wheeling and dealing of politicians. What more could you ask for?

We tolerate the scientist who try to destroy the bible with their theories of the earth being formed by accident. We tolerate the atheists who want God out of our country. We tolerate a government that is destroying our constitution. We tolerate a society that thinks sex and violence are the things we should be watching on television and in the movies. Yes things have really changed, or have they?

The only thing I see that has changed is the attitude of our nation. In 1776 our constitution was signed and the United States became a nation. This document was based on the Holy Scriptures and everyone in our nation swore to defend the constitution and our rights as citizens. Today the supreme courts are denying that the constitution was base on the scriptures and are systematically taking away our rights. Why? Because our attitudes as citizens have changed. The people of America have demonstrated to the government that they are more interested in the pleasures of the flesh than in the family values. Read (Genesis 19:1-20).

In the world today we have people who claim to be witches, people who tell the future by using cards and crystal balls (Acts 8:14-25), people who value money more than God (Acts 19:21-41). We have Christians who exploit the people for their money (Acts 5:1-11). We have preachers who tell us one thing and some another (Galatians 2:11-21).

The economy of today demands that both the husband and wife work just to make ends meet (Matthew 6:25-34). Our government nor our churches are holding parents responsible for their children and married couples today are more interested in how much alimony and child support they can get or that they will have to pay, than their concern about their family. Couples today are all show and no go (Matthew 5:31-32). Couples today are more concerned about how well their children participate in sports than how well they know about God (Ephesians 1:15-23).

There are those who want salvation and they believe in God, but they want to party first. They want to wait until they are old to accept Christ as their Saviour. By that time they will be ready to settle down. However, there is a problem with that line of thought. The average age of people killed in automobile accidents is 25-35, the average age of murder victims is 18-30. What I am trying to say is we can die at any time. We can’t be guaranteed we will live long enough to be ready to settle down.

Let’s go past all the fancy gadgets we have today and look at what matters to God. God hasn’t changed any of His commandments, nor has He changed the requirements for salvation. God hasn’t changed the date the world will end. God hasn’t changed His views on good and evil. God hasn’t changed any of the scriptures He inspired men to write.

No Christianity has not changed. No the world hasn’t changed. The world is just more easily advertised and Christianity is more publicly ridiculed than it once was. All these things have always been there, we just hear more about them because of the news media.

The owner of the Washington Post was asked why his paper never printed good news  about ordinary people doing something good for their community. His answer was this," people won’t buy good news, I would go bankrupt if I printed just good news.”

I have been to many different denominations and heard many different preachers in my search for a church home. I have experienced preachers that never read or quote scripture, preachers that talk about what they have done for an hour and never mention what Christ has done, preachers who stated “I sin daily and I’m proud of it,” and preachers who preach the gospel and lead people to salvation. Which of these preachers do you think we should be listening to?

Some of our seminaries are teaching preachers to tell the people what they want to hear. They are so concerned with how much money the church takes in, they don’t think the preachers should tell people what they need to know about being a Christian and risk offending them.

No Christianity has not changed because God hasn’t changed. It is the responsibility of each individual to study God’s word, learn to understand God’s word, and build their own lasting relationship with God. Jesus set the example of how we should live and before he left he gave us a helper (Holy Spirit) to convict us of our sins and teach us. The Holy Spirit will also point our the deceptions of others if we will allow Him to work in our lives.
