Who
Wrote the Old Testament and to Whom was it Written?
Chapter
1
It is important for us to know something about each of the people who
wrote a part of the Old Testament. It gives us incite into their character and
education. It will lead us to understand why each of them had a different style
of writing and also why God chose them to pen His word.
The Old Testament was written primarily to the
nation of Israel. God was establishing His people in the land and gave them the
tools (laws) they needed to become a nation devoted to Him so He could help them
prosper.
Because of the unfaithfulness of Israel at times
God chose some of the people to tell them what they were doing wrong and warn
them of the consequences of their actions. This does not indicate in any way
that God was unjust or a tyrant. To the contrary, the Old Testament is all about
how much God loved Israel and how willing He was to forgive their
transgressions.
As you read about and study about each person in
this chapter, ask yourself three questions:
1.
What was this person’s relationship with God?
2.
What was Israel’s relationship with God at this
time?
3.
Why did God choose this person to be His
spokesperson?
You will find the answers to all three questions will become apparent as we study.
